A #burglar has been sentenced to #prison for impersonating #UKPowerNetworks staff in #Kent SE #England and stealing #copper #cable and other #metal - putting many places off supply and causing extremely dangerous and unpleasant situations (removing protective earth cable can cause a rising neutral and phase imbalance, which results in almost 400V appearing in places where only 230V is expected)

All #trafficLights in #Ipswich town centre failed today for a large part of the day.
There has been no statement to the media from #Suffolk County #Council or even the #Police !
It would be extremely unlikely that all the supplies from #UKPowerNetworks failed at the same time as they are from many different feeder pillars and substations - something bad must have happened to the controllers.
Although some #drivers claimed "traffic was flowing better", this will only be the case for dominant traffic flows, and #pedestrians would have struggled to find opportunities to cross the roads safely

I hope the investigation into this "make pumps 5" #fire in #Suffolk involving an #EV is published (and the make and model of vehicle and charger publicised) - it seems to also include the #charger as #UKPowerNetworks had to put 73 buildings off supply to make the scene safe..

A somewhat ironic incident : an #EV was crashed into an #electricity pole in #Cambridgeshire - causing a big #fire and putting several homes off supply. The driver was lucky and escaped with only minor #injuries

#UKPowerNetworks #rescue a #cat from the top of an #electricity pole carrying 11 000 V

I’m lucky enough to live one of these areas of eastern England, where #OctopusEnergy and #UKPowerNetworks are running a trial where electricity is free for specific periods of peak renewable generating capacity. We’re in the middle of the first such 2-hour window right now, so we’ve turned everything we can on. We’ve been managing to draw about 18 kW from the grid for the first hour, on top of roughly 2 kW we’re generating from our own solar array.
