  1. I put myself on an Adafruit wait list for a #RaspberryPi Zero 2 W.

    The good news:
One finally arrived this week. 🥧🎉

    The bad news:
I can’t remember what I wanted to do with it. 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️

#NewEnglandVintageComputing friends, what #VintageApple #RetroComputing gadget can I build with it?

  2. I ended up programming this one with Adafruit's #circuitpython, because they have a very easy to use #ds18b20 driver and wifi driver. My preferred #Rust framework, #embassy, doesn't yet have a 1wire implementation and it looked a little gross to write it for a one-off temp sensor. I'll return to this some time later; for now, I have a thermometer located near my thermostat that I can poke and get a reading from whenever I want.

Also: The pi pico is a power hog but dang is it handy.

  3. I received my order from Adafruit with a small 80mm fan to plug into my Pi Zero 2W to keep things nice and cool in the case I printed. I also added a small heat sink on the processor chip.

The biggest thing that the new case allows for is better heat transfer, as the original case I had printed had no vents to the outside air 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣

Here's the comparison in temperature and frequency between rev1 and rev2 of the case.

  5. @RenewedRebecca I personally used for programming adafruit and for programming a DJI Tello drone. In both cases, the experience was great.

  6. @RenewedRebecca I personally used #tinygo for programming adafruit #pybadge and #gobot for programming a DJI Tello drone. In both cases, the experience was great.

  7. The prototyping space of the #Adafruit motor shield looks perfect for placing two #mp1584 buck converters, to transform the 12.8V of the four LiFePO4 cells to the 5V for the #Arduino and the 6V for the motors. Only soldered the pins to the converters, yet. Might even add a switch.

  8. With a few slide pots on the @adafruit PicoDVI Feather, I can do #videosynth stuff kinda! Here, three pots control params of the sketch. If you want to try this out, I’ve been putting my code here github.com/todbot/PicoDVI_expe

  9. Super simple and inexpensive #robot controlled from @adafruit io over MQTT using a @Raspberry_Pi Pico W, two continuous rotation servos, a speaker, and powered by a mobile phone battery. Coded in Circuit Python. Using this in my Spring #BCPhysComp course. Will post video lessons, soon. Let’s roll!

  11. I'm settling on the #adafruit #feather pinout to use for MCU modules (with or without WIFI and bluetooth) on the bike computer prototyping pcb, essentially turning it into a #featherwing. Getting different MCU's on small boards with compatible pinout is next to impossible.

The one thing with feathers is, that they are not meant to be backpowered from a wing. But narrowing the use case down to "use the feather as a MCU module" instead of "be 100% compatible with the feather ecosystem" helps.

  13. Want a drone #synth for your @adafruit #MacroPad #RP2040? Yeah I did too! With the #MacroPadSynthPlug you can too. 12 independently-controllable oscillators, change them one at a time, or in groups. Tell the oscillators to "scatter" for maximum dissonance. Who needs musicality when you got noise?

  14. Started some new adventures with my Adafruit PyPortal devices by erasing everything and upgrading boot loader and CircuitPython. I have to admit that it took a few tries to get this to work (possibly due to my not reading _all_ instructions first). Anyway, it's working now and I'm running CircuitPython v7.3.3 (latest stable). I was also able to run a few sample code snippets to verify that things work fine.

  15. I've been playing with an #adafruit #rotarytrinkey. However I'm not a big fan of the #arduino IDE. Hopefully this writeup will help me make use of #clion instead...
