  1. In 1869, Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev was struggling to organize chemical elements for days. 🧪📚

    Then something incredible happened…

He reportedly fell asleep while working and woke up with the idea that became the modern periodic table .🤯

The arrangement was so accurate that it even predicted elements that had not yet been discovered at the time .🔬

Sometimes science is not just hard work, it’s also imagination, patterns, and moments of insight ⚡

  3. Interesting that the group 4 elements on the @compoundchem infographic

    Carbon, Silicon etc, whereas Wikipedia

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Group_4_

Suggests group 4 is Titanium, Zirconium, Most periodic tables are group 1,2 on the left, then there is a jump over the transition to group 3, Boron, Aluminium, Transition elements are numbered IIIB, IVB (which wikipedia lists as group 4) 2nd group of the transition elements.

So which is correct here, or does it depend on the periodic table you are looking at?

  4. Big Picture Science for Dec. 29, 2025: Beyond the Periodic Table

    REPEAT
You interact with about two-thirds of the elements of the periodic table every day. Some, like carbon, oxygen, and nitrogen, make up our bodies and the air we breathe. Yet there is also a class of elements so unstable they can only be made in a lab. These superheavy elements are the purview of a small group stretching the boundaries of chemistry. Can they extend the periodic table beyond the 118 in it now? Find out scientists are using particle accelerators to create element 120 and why they’ve skipped over element 119. Plus, if an element exists for only a fraction of a second in the lab, can we still say that counts as existing?

    Guests:

    * Mark Miodownik – professor of materials and society at the University of College London and the author of “It’s a Gas: The Sublime and Elusive Elements That Expand Our World.”
    * Kit Chapman – Science historian at Falmouth University, author of “Superheavy; Making and Breaking the Periodic Table.”
    * Jennifer Pore – Research Scientist of Heavy Elements at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

  9. 🧪Cologne researchers add a new detail to the “nuclear periodic table” ⚛️
The team has successfully observed the electron capture decay of the atomic nucleus Technetium-98. This decay mode had been long suspected, but not yet confirmed. The results, published in Physical Review, add a new detail to the "Periodic Table of Nuclear Physics".
