Emily soon joined me in the courtyard. After the turbulent street filled with crowds, vendors, and beggars, the citrus-scented space was peaceful or should have been, if it hadn’t been for the cry of a young female voice, saying, “Oh… makaristos Agios Ilarionas… éna tháuma…”

I followed the sound and saw a girl of about ten wearing a white dress that matched the flowers dangling near her face. Her bright eyes and #glossy black hair were barely visible through the second-floor’s vines, where she #hid.

She continued, “Pappoú. “Pappoú. éna tháuma.”

“We’re in the soup now,” Emily said.

As we watched, a gray-haired man armed with a stout cudgel joined her. The girl spoke rapidly to him, gesticulating wildly.

After shooing her out of sight, he called down to us, “Pois eisai?”

I held my hands in the air and said in French, “We’re friends. We mean you no harm.”

The man’s face screwed up, puzzled, and then he shouted into the house. Another man appeared. I guessed he was a scholar from his somber black robes and lean countenance.

The two men spoke while Emily and I conferred. “What should we do?” I asked. “Time-trip to our meeting with the monk?” By “monk,” I meant our former guide.

“Wait,” she replied. “There’s a pattern of things going sideways when we do that.”

It was true. Twice now, tripping had put us in life-threatening positions. First, there’d been the meteor impact, and then there was the less-than-friendly reception we’d just experienced. It didn’t always happen, but it occurred enough to make one wary.

“Who are you?” the scholar called down in accented French.

“I am Bijou, a traveling pilgrim,” I said, bowing. “I mean you no harm. My only wish is to bless your house.”

Out of sight, I heard the girl say, “Pappoú. éna tháuma.”

“She says you performed a miracle, passing through a solid wall.” The man said, making a sign against the evil eye.

“It was God’s blessing upon a humble mendicant. I was seeking St. George’s shrine when outlaws tried to stop me. God is great, and many are his miracles.”

The two men conferred again, and while they did so, Emily addressed me. “Lying it on rather thick there aren’t you?”

“Better than being mistaken for a sorcerer,” I said, crossing myself as if uttering a prayer. “Besides, this is an age of wonders.”

Their conference over, the scholar called to me, “Holy one, would you bless our house by partaking a humble meal with us?”

“It would be my honor,” I said. Luck had finally smiled on me.

Поэтому у меня возникло желание сделать адаптер для превращения своей проводной клавиатуры в беспроводную. Я уже предпринимал такую попытку в одной из своих статей . Описанный там адаптер представлял больше учебный интерес, чем имел практическое применение, так как прошивка представляла собой полноценный Linux, кастомизированный скриптами, и использовала слишком мощное (Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W) для такой простой задачи железо. К той статье были написаны справедливые замечания, а сейчас я хочу их исправить.

At $24 (USD), the #Teensy 4.0 is a flipping powerhouse of a #microcontroller . 600 MHz CPU with many nice features. 40 digital pins and 14 analog pins. 1 MB of RAM. High speed USB 2.0 port that can be either host or device and a bunch of other I/O.

I'm going to use this for my #synth project. I can convert a panel of controls to a very high speed #USB #HID device with reserved bandwidth guaranteeing 1000 packets/sec each way, so controls are updated at roughly 1 ms intervals.

Ich würde das Gerne so umsetzen, dass das auch gut nutzbar ist. Das bedeutet: Idealerweise akku betrieben. Kann Bluetooth mit USB-C zum laden und für Kabelgebundene nutzung. Hat da jemand eine Idee was für hardware ich da nehmen will? Besonders würd mich interessieren welche abtastrate ich schaffen sollte. Das könnte bei den Tastern eine rolle spielen. Wie lange Tipt denn ein schneller schreiber so auf einen Taster?

I wonder if #USB #HID joystick/arcade encoders are a better solution for connecting potentiometers to computers for realtime audio-related knob twiddling. Like these universal MIDI encoders run at a 30hz scan rate, which would be considered unusably slow for gaming. They also are limited to a 7 bit range due to #MIDI. I think analog joystick inputs get 16 bits at upwards of 1000 Hz scanning rate, depending on encoder.

They are collecting this data via a trip through Google Analytics, aka Spyware Central. There is no possible way to justify collection of this particular data; it is none of their damn business how long you have your drawing program focused before switching to your browser and back again. The author notes their privacy policy really doesn't describe this collection of data correctly, so there really can't be informed consent in the first place.

2. Why on earth is it possible in #Apple #OSX / #MacOS for a USB human interface device driver to capture this information in the first place? Apple shares a big slice of the blame here - this should just simply not be possible for the driver to collect in the first place. Having such a driver allowed to place outgoing HTTP requests is also a big "WTF are they thinking?" moment.
