  1. More time spent clearing/sorting out the relatives' house, and here's some of what we found this week:

    - a Leading Edge green monochrome display, in box, to match the computer and keyboard we've already found.

    - this mostly unpopulated 386 motherboard, from which I'll need to snip out that battery.

    - a Seagate hard drive, complete with controller card and manuals

    (continued ...)

  2. Did you finally get that vintage computer up and running but it’s feeling a little lonely when you’re using it? Been feeling a little moody but don’t have a place to put a cryptic away message? Looking to chat with your vintage tech buddies while using your vintage tech? Well, do we have you covered! The NEVCG AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) server is up and running and waiting for you to log on! Find more info here: forums.nevcg.org/t/the-nevcg-a

  3. At the relatives' house, we've got most of the loose trash into a skip and now are down to sorting out old electronics and boxes. Most of it is computers and accessories. Some more photos from the week in this thread.

  4. Thanks to @BigBadBiologist and his timely posting this morning, I was able to make it to the #NewEnglandVintageComputing meetup at the Maynard, MA public library today.

I'd not attended an event before, so I grabbed my barn-find CGA monitor (mastodon.social/@GamesMissed/1) and the Arduino-based monitor tester out of the corner and brought them along, so that I had something to contribute.

  5. #newenglandvintagecomputing No stream today. Come see the “world’s most adequate Mac Classic” at the vintage computing meetup at the Maynard, MA library vintage computing meetup.

  6. Someone in the north end wants to find a good home for a free, working Indigo iMac G3: boston.craigslist.org/gbs/zip/

Also a stereo receiver and a typewriter. Looks like a very nice haul.

  7. I'll be at the #MITFlea / #Swapfest tomorrow morning in Cambridge, Massachusetts. If you see a large man walking around in an orange Mill Forge Makerspace shirt, that's likely me. Say hi, if you like! I'll have my #3DS on me as well, if you want to trade Streetpass pings.

I'm not looking for anything in particular, it's just a fun event to visit. I'll try and get photos of the good stuff and post it here as a thread.

  8. #Boston area #Macintosh people: I bought a few cheap IDE optical drives from a person who's selling off older Macs for cheap. It looks like they're down to just G3 and CoreDuo MacBooks, but if that's what you're interested in:

The person is cool and knows their stuff.

  9. Come buy my sh… high quality vintage computer equipment at MIT Swapfest! #newenglandvintagecomputing

  10. I got an eBay hit on a TransWarp GS card for (relatively) cheap (ebay.com/itm/267258221830)! It's being sold by The Byte Shop (byteshop.io/), a Boston-area vintage computer museum/repair shop, and a very cool place!

Wait, this is "For Parts or Repair Only," what's going on ... ? Ah. Crap. The listing is very honest. A previous owner has made a terrible hash of the traces to the CPU socket.

Anyone else brave enough to try this?

  11. RI Computer Museum’s warehouse flea market is next Saturday! (I unfortunately can’t make it) #newenglandvintagecomputing

  12. Just before the Easter weekend, I received the replacement #SCSI card from the very kind eBay seller. I updated them to know it had arrived in good order, but that I wasn't going to be able to try it out for a few days because of guests and festivities.

But I got around to it. AND I INSTALLED IT THE RIGHT WAY 'ROUND THIS TIME.

(I'm never going to forget that I did that ...)

  13. Before getting to those new Macs I grabbed off the recycle truck I am going to be replacing the VGA cable in this Sony Trinitron. I can’t find a replacement cable as beefy as the original hopefully a cable matters cable will be good enough. #newenglandvintagecomputing

  14. @siracusa I keep thinking that I'm going to get to the end of the photos, and they just keep going ...

    #NewEnglandVintageComputing, you should see this.

  15. Just found out about this garage sale / flea market at the RI computer museum tomorrow. #newenglandvintagecomputing

  16. A relative of mine has come across a box of 2 dozen unused, blank cassette tapes. Is this something that might be useful for some of you running older hardware? This is in the Boston, Massachusetts area.

If more information about the tapes would be helpful, I can inquire.

  17. As @knizer reminded people today, the #MITFlea / #Swapfest is this coming Sunday, the 21st (w1mx.mit.edu/flea-at-mit/).

I just today picked up this CRT for free, offered to anyone who would carry it off. It's a ViewSonic E790, could use a wipe-down of the plastic surfaces, but the picture is bright and clear and it's running well.

To anyone attending the SwapFest on Sunday, it's yours for free to go to a good home. I can hand it off to you there.

  18. I'm heading to the #MITFlea / #Swapfest this coming Sunday morning. Be nice to find an ADB keyboard for my Apple IIgs, maybe even some software on disk.

Anyone else going to be there?

  19. Not sure why this Quadra 610 power supply isn’t working.. 🤔 #newenglandvintagecomputing

  20. I visited the MIT Flea today! A great selection of vintage '70s and '80s computers this time. I saw people happily boxing up VIC-20s and TRS-80s to take home. This is going to be a thread of some of what I saw, followed by what I ended up with myself.

  21. Things that followed me home from MIT Swapfest today: PCMCIA SCSI cards (free), displayport to VGA ($2), displayport to DVI ($2), HDMI to DVI ($2), LocalTalk phone net adapters (3 for $10), the world’s nastiest PowerMac 7100 (donation from @gutbomb ) #newenglandvintagecomputing

  22. I'm going to be selling for the first time at the #MITFlea on April 21st. I am clearing out a lot of hardware that has been taking up a back corner for too long. Most of it even works! A lot of it is relatively modern and working (i.e., you can install at least Windows 10, or any modern flavor of Linux), some of it is leaning retro: working 3.5" drives, an original Macintosh carrying case, and this Intellimouse that I pulled out of a box today.
