For the last 20 years, Dominican nuns in a Mexican monastery have cared for the largest known captive population of the critically endangered achoque salamander. Now scientists from Chester Zoo in the U.K. are collaborating with the sisters and Mexican conservationists to test a microchipping method that they hope will help them monitor the species’ dwindling wild population, reports Mongabay’s Liz Kimbrough.

Last week I was bringing plants inside when I discovered two Red-backed Salamanders hanging out under one of the saucers.
Which isn’t too odd except that one of them was a yellow morph. Of the hundreds I’ve monitored over the years I’d estimate that 60% were the “gray” morph, 40% were the “red” morph, and only a handful were yellow or another color.
I’ve never found a Red and Yellow morph together! I quickly examined both before putting their “roof” back over them.

Today is my birthday and my wonderful friend Sophia wrote me a Vulkan/Mortarion-story from the Soulmate-AU.Mortarion gifts some butterflies to Vulkan, and the Lord of Drakes tells a story about a sweetling, who loved a dragon.
I just had to draw the mini-dragon! The cutest little predators, a menace to all nocturnean bugs and insects.
