  1. is slacking off this afternoon.

  2. Looks like #Slack is failharding again this afternoon. IRC will outlast them all!

  3. I tried to write a thing using Slack’s private API to help tidy up my bin fire of channels, but it kept triggering their “use our Electron garbage” alarms; I’ll try this next github.com/ekroon/slack-channe rather than resort to Playwright #slack

  4. CW: UI grumble

Please, #webdev folks. If you have a light, dark, and auto setting, just make auto the default. I'm regularly amazed that even companies with millions of dollars in revenue can't get this right. (eg.: Discord, GitLab)
(Special mention goes to #Slack, which requires a full restart of its native app to detect a theme change. Their lack of polish is truly amazing. No idea why anyone pays for this other than platform lock-in.)

  5. @r1w1s1

It's a shame that #Slackware is like every other Linux distribution and only packages #nvi and not #nvi2.

Nonetheless, you might want to cross-reference what you have against the nvi2 version of the manual, which expanded the descriptions of and clarified some existing things.

  12. Tomorrow, I’ll be doing a drawing for the winner of my weekly computer giveaway.

The model for this week is a ThinkCentre M710q Tiny with Intel i3-7100T processor, 8GB memory and 120GB storage.

Linux will be pre-installed. One of the reasons I am doing this is to bring attention to Linux distros like:

    • Artix
    • Devuan
    • Void
    • Slackware
    • NetBSD (which is not Linux)

For a chance to win, just be a subscriber of my email newsletter.

  13. Any one know of some tech blogs that have a good number of posts on the Slackware Linux distribution?

I remember reading one for a some time a few years back, but have lost track of it.

If you write a tech blog and have had a post or two on Slackware in the past, feel free to recommend yourself.

personally I'm using #slackware but there's also for example chimera with other interesting non-mainstream choices.

  15. @jloc0 Time for an install again. I saw @nwgpiotr updating his things for the new Hypr also. My first ever wm was awesomewm, for which I had a great config (at least I thought so!). So going back to Hypr for a while and getting my feet wet in lua configs is full circle after 8 years 😆

  16. @vbatts I was curious about the version of podman on Slackbuilds. Are you keeping up with it and that version is fine, or have you not had time or interest, and the version on SlackBuilds should be updated? (I must admit to not really following podman releases closely enough to have any immediate opinion.)

I'm interested in looking at the images @alien is hosting on his new service, but I'd rather play with them in podman than Docker. Which see:

  17. @brennen @brainwane

    Signed.

But forcing WMF workers into the arms of the Giga-dollar US corporation #SalesforceInc [1] that runs #Slack [2][3] is extremely unwise, not just as a matter of principle, but also for practical and legal reasons. Better switch to FOSS, which is at the core of the community of WMF wikis, now rather than later.

Salesforce Inc's respect for workers' rights doesn't sound great [1].
