I haven't had time to look what 1.92.144's change was, but Friday releases spook me. 🙂

Oh hello, there are Friday Brave browser releases. Not always a good sign. Could be some chromium zero day or similar. Haven't had time to look.

"Brave Origin is paying for fewer features" or "Brave is making you pay for a problem they've created".
These are the slogans I keep seeing around Brave Origin.
While I get the reaction, I think there is a bigger problem here: browsers do not live on good intentions.
A browser can be free for the user, but it is never free to build and maintain. If users do not pay directly, the business model has to exist somewhere else: VPN upsells, AI assistants, wallets, sponsored shortcuts, search deals, ads, or whatever comes next.
Brave Origin is weird because it makes the trade-off explicit: you are not paying more, but to get back the user-first experience that a browser should offer.
I paid for Brave Origin, and I'm fine with it.

What’s interesting about #BraveOrigin to me is that, if this had been the original product and were priced at more like $30, I think it’d have been quite popular. I’ve seen plenty of people, including myself, say that they’d pay for a simple, private browser that isn’t propped up by Google in some way.
But, to launch it years down the road at $60, still using Chromium… Sorry, but I’m good with the various free options that basically give me the same without the background and drama.

- Brave Origin of course- A new addition: Vivaldi!
There is an excellent Sbo pkg for that, made by one of the Vivaldi maintainers. But if you just want an installable Slackware pkg, you can find it in this repo; I switched back to Vivaldi myself also.
As a consequence Brave-Origin will be discontinued by me at the end of June 2026.

Also: a desktop client for Filen encrypted cloud storage is included in slackosundries now. I use that myself. The other packages had no updates.

Yep, the odd one out. I downloaded Brave Origin (on Linux it's free) and made a Slackware pkg of it. Even opened a repo to share, but I'll have to upgrade my Codeberg to upload files with a size over 100Mb. Fair enough, another to do. I'll be back.

Quien quiera usar Brave Origin, la versión sin extras de Brave, sin pagarles 60 pavos puede instalarlo gratis en Linux.
Habrá que compararlos y ver si merece la pena o basta con mantener las configuraciones habituales en el navegador normal. De entrada, requerir un email para usar un navegador web no es algo que me apetezca. -
