Consulted with my partner: a significant part of this is New England bullshit. But also, the pandemic changed things.

Around the time I moved to New England, I noticed a culture shift where people will happily say they're coming to something they've been invited to and then just ghost. I don't know if it's New England or just something that happened in 2016.
At this point, I don't believe anyone will show up to anything I host until they actually do show up.

Two weeks ago we did a session zero for a game that I wanted to run. Both players (yes, I can only get two players) seemed really enthusiastic, had fun things they wanted to explore. We all agreed to meet today.
I get there today and one just no-shows.
I have now tried all of the advice out there for getting a gaming group together:
- advertise in a bunch of places
- have it at home
- have it at a games shop
- open table
- regularly scheduledPeople keep ghosting me. Even those who have played with me the occasional one-shot and claimed to really like my GM style. Even supposed friends.
I think I just fucking give up at this point. There's no point in putting in the effort to assemble a group of people and then assemble a scenario if, come game day, is worse than even odds that half the players just won't show.

The Senegal Coucal (Centropus senegalensis) is a familiar inhabitant of the grasslands, savannahs and scrublands of sub-Saharan Africa, including Nigeria. A member of the cuckoo family, it is a distinctive, largely terrestrial bird, recognised by its black head, rich chestnut wings, long dark tail and striking red eyes. Unlike many cuckoos, it builds its own nest and raises its young rather than relying on other birds to do so.
