The episode was filmed in the late summer and fall of 1997 in New Jersey and New York, and was completed in October of that year, but despite being well received by everyone who saw it, HBO initially passed on it.
The pilot was left on the shelf for over a year before the network picked it up and it premiered on Sunday, January 10, 1999.
The groundbreaking crime drama starred James Gandolfini as New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano and ran for six seasons consisting of 86 episodes until June 10, 2007.
The show was a major ratings success throughout its run, despite airing on HBO, which was available in significantly fewer American homes than regular networks. The show frequently attracted equal or larger audiences than most popular network shows of the time.

I just finished season 2 and loved it. One of the better spy series available at the moment. Althought I do like Slow Horses a little better, it's just quirkier.

I want to go back and watch some old series from when I was younger I missed and the first on my list is Heroes which I never watched a single episode of during its original run despite being a premise young me should have been into. One of my close friends wants to hear some of my reactions cause he was a big fan of the first season.

Watching season 2 of The Agency (Paramount+), it's pretty good. Just learning today that it's a remake of The Bureau, a French show I had heard good things about and had planned to watch. Now, it may be spoiled for me. :-)
Will probably watch French version anyway.
