Still on about Hummingbirds. Became fascinated with them watching a Hummingbird nest while serving as a TA at field camp in 1975. I was amazed at its toughness and tenacity in surviving mountain thunderstorms and hailstorms. Have remained fascinated now 51 years later.
Nests are typically built with spider webs, thistle, and decorated with lichen. The nests are usually sheltered by tree canopy, and can be difficult to locate. In this case I was lucky enough to locate the nest by hearing the bird, and was able to watch the entire process of building through fledging of two chicks.
