    30 Jahre #Brandanschlag in der #Geißstraße: Reclaim and Remember

    Am 16. März 1994 starben sieben Menschen, Ante B., Ljuba B., Zuzanna M., Athina S., Kristina S., Nebahat S., ihre Tochter Aynül S. und ihr ungeborenes Kind, bei einem möglicherweise rassistisch motivierten Brandanschlag in der Stuttgart​​er Geißstraße. Zu Beginn der 1990er Jahre veränderte eine Welle rassistischer Gewalt das Leben vieler Menschen mit Migrations- und Fluchterfahrungen für immer. Nach dem Herbst 1991 kam es binnen zwei Jahren zu mehr als 1.000 Brandanschlägen.Bis heute stehen die Namen der Städte #Mölln und #Solingen symbolisch hierfür.

    Sowohl bundesweit als auch in #Stuttgart selbst sind der verheerende Anschlag vom 16. März 1994 und vor allem auch der mögliche rassistische Hintergrund der Tat kaum bekannt. Obwohl der Täter bei nachfolgenden Brandanschlägen Bekennerschreiben mit eindeutig rassistischen Parolen und NS-Symbolen versandte, gilt der Brandanschlag auf die Geißstraße bis heute als Tat eines verwirrten, psychisch erkrankten #Einzeltäters und #Pyromanen. #Rassismus spielte bei der Tat in der Geißstraßek keine Rolle, urteilte das Gericht. Eine Analyse der Stiftung Geißstraße unterstützt diese bis heute umstrittene Position.
    Die Folgen sind gravierend: Bis heute sind die Getöteten nicht als #Todesopfer rechter Gewalt anerkannt; die Überlebenden sind ohne entsprechende Hilfen geblieben.
    Anlässlich des 30. Jahrestages des Brandanschlages werden wir mit Expertinnen aus Überlebendeninitiativen, Wissenschaft und Praxis über Rassismus als mutmaßliches Tatmotiv des Brandanschlages in der Geißstraße sprechen: Es geht auch um die Frage von Rassismus als Tatmotiv bei psychisch erkrankten Täterinnen, die #Pathologisierung von Rassismus, die gesellschaftliche Abwehr von Perspektiven und Forderungen von Überlebenden rassistischer Brandanschläge sowied die #Kontinuitäten rechter, rassistischer und antisemitischer Gewalt in Baden-Württemberg und fehlende Anerkennung.

    Solange die #Palästinenser die Hauptleidtragenden waren, haben Israels Verbündete der militärischen #Hybris des Landes nachgegeben. Jetzt fürchten sie die bitteren Früchte ihres Fehlers.

    Die aufeinanderfolgenden #Attentate auf den# Hisbollah-Befehlshaber Fuad #Shukr in #Beirut und den politischen Führer der Hamas , Ismail #Haniyeh, in #Teheran waren entweder strategische Torheit oder vorsätzliche Pyromanie. Während #Israel die Verantwortung für den ersten Fall übernommen hat und sich über den zweiten Fall bedeckt hält, besteht kaum ein Zweifel daran, dass es beides inszeniert hat - und selbst einige seiner #Verbündeten sind der Meinung, dass die Israelis dieses Mal zu weit gegangen sind.

    Israelische #Politiker haben sich schnell auf einen Vorwand für einen hochrangigen Schlag gegen die Hisbollah gestürzt - einen Raketenangriff aus dem #Libanon, bei dem 12 syrische drusische #Kinder und #Jugendliche in den besetzten #Golanhöhen getötet wurden, für den die Hisbollah eine Beteiligung bestritt -, obwohl die Anwohner vehement gegen ihre Rufe nach Vergeltung protestierten. Shukr und Haniyeh waren sicherlich wichtige Mitglieder ihrer jeweiligen Gruppen, aber Israel weiß sehr wohl, dass beide Organisationen über interne Mechanismen und Notfallpläne verfügen, um sie zu ersetzen; schließlich sind dies kaum die ersten Attentate, die die beiden Widerstandsbewegungen erlebt haben.

    Wie Hassan #Nasrallah von der Hisbollah und der iranische Ayatollah Ali #Khamenei erklärten, war die Ermordung zweier hochrangiger Persönlichkeiten in ausländischen Hauptstädten innerhalb weniger Stunden eine eindeutige Botschaft, die die in den letzten zehn Monaten zwischen den kämpfenden Parteien festgelegten so genannten "roten Linien" durchbrach. Jetzt wartet die Welt auf eine Vergeltung für ein unnötiges #Machtspiel, das uns einem #Flächenbrand näher bringt, wie wir ihn seit Jahrzehnten nicht mehr erlebt haben.

    Die brisanten Auswirkungen der militärischen Hybris Israels sind seit den ersten Tagen der "Operation Eiserne Schwerter", der brutalen Kampagne, die nach dem tödlichen Angriff der Hamas vom 7. Oktober auf den #Gazastreifen gestartet wurde, deutlich geworden. Aber die internationale Politik hat schon immer mehr Wert auf die Tötung von symbolischen Führern gelegt als auf die von #Zivilisten.

    Obwohl der 7. Oktober den gesamten Nahen Osten in einen gewalttätigen Strudel gestürzt hat, wurde uns wiederholt gesagt, dass die Schwelle zu einem "regionalen Krieg" noch nicht überschritten sei. Die kämpfenden Akteure, so betonen Experten, spielen immer noch ein riskantes, aber wohldurchdachtes Spiel, um die gegenseitige "Abschreckung" wiederherzustellen und ein gewisses Maß an #Gewalt zuzulassen, das immer noch so verstanden werden kann, dass eine totale #Verwüstung vermieden wird.

    In vielerlei Hinsicht ist dies jedoch ein diskursiver Trick, der die erschütternde Wahrheit vor Ort herunterspielt: Wir befinden uns bereits seit Monaten in diesem regionalen Krieg. Der Beweis dafür sind die #Leichen und #Trümmer, die sich im Gazastreifen und im Südlibanon auftürmen, und die Aktivierung der vom #Westen geführten Allianz und der Achse des Widerstands an mehreren Fronten - von US-#Kriegsschiffen im Mittelmeer bis zu den #Houthi-#Milizen im Roten Meer, von israelischen Luftangriffen im Libanon bis zu einem Raketensperrfeuer aus dem #Iran.

    Diese #Konfrontation kann sich unendlich zuspitzen. Der Grund dafür, dass die internationalen Akteure in der vergangenen Woche mit Verspätung in Aktion getreten sind, ist jedoch derselbe, warum der Krieg in seine bisher gefährlichste Phase getrieben wird: dass bestimmte Leben und bestimmte Interessen mehr zählen als andere.

    The bit that you skip #165: Tangerine Dream – Charly The Kid

    I have no defined idea of when the Tangerine Dream reappraisal began. When GTA V was released in 2013, Tangerine Dream were an integral part of the atmospheric music, along Woody Jackson, Oh No, and The Alchemist. The dynamic score was integral to the game’s success, and you can still find youtube channels with extended versions recorded in-game for those of us who love to lose ourselves for hours on majestic cinematic scores.

    I suspect the newfound cult status of Michael Mann’s Thief was a consequence of GTA V’s success. After all, GTA V always took inspiration from Mann’s movies. Vice City, GTA IV, and GTA V have bank jobs, and the presence of hockey masks is no coincidence. Thief is a great film and originally was going to be today’s post, but I thought about another Tangerine Dream movie that needs some reappraisal.

    Firestarter stars Drew Barrymore, David Keith, George C. Scott, and Martin Sheen, and it’s an adaptation of a novel by Stephen King. Directed by Mark L. Lester, it almost feels like a test run for Commando. I mean it! Kidnapping of a loved one, slightly diabolical acting from the two villains (George C. Scott and Martin Sheen), and a pyromaniac’s daydream with the fiery ending of The Shop, the secret agency that caused all the trouble.

    Stephen King was notoriously vocal about hating the adaptation, and Roger Ebert was miffed by it. As an 80s film, it’s what it says on the tin, expect no more. Book purists will side with King, though. Since I grew up with films like this, I’m more partial to the adaptation. Feels breezier without the usual King tangents that extend his books to door-stopping length. I still read him, but, you know.

    Tangerine Dream’s soundtrack is heartfelt. It does go into heavy 80s territory from time to time, especially on the wonderful Crystal Voice. I’m recommending Charly the Kid. It has that smouldering crescendo Tangerine Dreams so well, where a sense of wonder and dread are interlocked. You could almost place vocals on it, but it doesn’t need them. A beautiful track for a character with a terrifying, world-ending power.
