Deific Anthropomorphization - or Lashunta-morphization is an interesting thing. Lashunta gods are largely deist or spiritual forces in essence. Burning-Mother, Father-Night, Green-Mother, Father-Hunter, the World-Soul, and a whole pantheon of animal-totems, angels, graces, and muses.

The Lashunta have no qualms about representing their deities as looking like themselves, though occasionally with added features that would fit right in among the ancient Indians or Greeks.

So lately I've tried to avoid Conan. Too often his depictions are just too innately patriarchal to be appropriate to my subject. Yet this is an exception. There's an alienness to the architecture. Also, this pic captures his brooding apishness to a tee, a good fit for Korasha!

Harkening back to my earlier post, young Conan in his thief period could be a good archetype for the outlaw Korasha I mentioned earlier, making his way beholden to none, living by his wits and sword. I suppose a Damaya farmwife or matron might even try to lure Conan-Korasha analog back to civilization, trading not only on their attractions but the benefits of lawful society. The only question: would he agree to be tamed?

PS: I had no idea Howe had ever done Conan! Until now I was only familiar with his LOTR works.

The funniest thing about the setting of Cyberpunk 2020/2077 is that Eurodollars are not a merging of the Euro and the US Dollar.
Rather, while the European Currency Unit had been in development since 1979, the EU only settled on the name Euro in 1995.

For 2077, they decided to leave all the anachronisms of the setting from 1988 (like the Soviet Union), and kept the name Eurodollars. But post-breakup America is totally using Euro as currency. 😆

Mercredi, c'est la suite de Réminiscences ! Pour cette session (et pour souffler un peu en cette période effrénée), je vais me repasser quelques sites et vidéos ou podcasts sur le voyage en JdR, en particulier version 5e.

J'aimerais notamment recourir à des tables aléatoires, j'irai donc piocher dans l'édition française du précieux Maze Rats qui en fourmille.

#Writever 5. Solitude

Les évènements s'enchaînaient de manière décidément trop chaotique. Chute d'objets célestes, phénomènes inexplicables par les érudits, invasion surgie des eaux... la lecture des flammes n'avait rien laissé présager de tel.

Malgré son statut très respecté, Bélisandre refusait d'adresser toute recommandation aux autorités. Consciente du poids de sa parole, elle préférait d'abord dissiper la brume qui planait sur ses analyses.
Quelque chose lui échappait, une causalité entre ces faits. Et cette matière inconnue, où la placer, comment retracer son origine, quel artisanat, quels enchantements rendaient cela possible ?

Trop d'hypothèses voletaient bruyamment dans sa tête, comme des oiseaux sans pattes, incapables de se percher sur une branche de logique.
Dans le silence de son étude, le front appuyé sur ses deux mains, Bélisandre était au moins sûre d'une chose : la vie de Pyrrha s'avérait souvent bien solitaire.

#Writever 3. Ermite

Les traces de pas d'au moins quatre personnes. Des sillons, probablement un chariot bâché d'après leur largeur et leur profondeur.
Les empreintes montraient un certain ordre de marche, une formation réfléchie. À quoi pouvaient bien jouer ces étranges individus ? S'agissait-il de ce groupe sinistre en manteaux vert sombre ?
Dans tous les cas, la ville de Ryth'cylen allait recevoir une lettre de l'ermite. Une première, pour sûr.

In medieval symbolism, dragons were often used as a metaphor for the Devil.

But perhaps you could use hydras in fantasy worlds instead! "The many-headed beast which will grow two new heads for each one that has been slain" does seem to be an apt metaphor for Evil, doesn't it?

And instead of noble knights questing to slay dragons (which need not be evil in your world), they could set out to slay hydras. #dnd #ttrpg #worldbuiding

Sorcerers have a strong "I am MISUNDERSTOOD and SPECIAL!" vibe which they share with many protagonists of Young Adult Fantasy Fiction.

But I think another valid approach is to view them through the lens of unexamined privilege. What is it like to be able to do stuff with ease that others can only accomplish with great effort - or not at all?

And YA narratives of this kind often only gain respect through use of the awesome powers they possess. But should "getting respected" have to rely on the privilege of innate powers?
