(1/n) Honestly, Last.fm really is the undisputed king of music scrobbling.
translated by translate.kagi.com
I've used LibreFM: (You need to join a waiting list and then wait a fortnight for the creator to send you registration details. The interface is very simple, and there are hardly any tutorials. At first, I was trying to figure out how to connect Spotify like on last.fm, only to realise later that you have to use the WebScrobbler extension);
ListenBrainz: (Probably Last.fm's biggest rival? A while ago it seems the CEO founder passed away; it's driven by the open-source community, but the API rate limits are quite strict! For example, using multi-scrobbler to sync a massive amount of records from last.fm will crazily throw 429 errors);
Maloja: (Self-hosted, but the data source is synced over via multi-scrobbler, which means I'm still using Last.fm, just with a different front-end UI. Moreover, the feature pages are quite bare-bones; only the album wall on the homepage is really worth looking at. I stopped hosting Maloja and multi-scrobbler a long time ago);
But none of them are as intuitive and easy to use as last.fm, nor do they have such a comprehensive ecosystem (for instance, from streaming services like Spotify, local players like MusicBee, browser extensions like WebScrobbler, to social discovery features, and so on and so forth);
However, the open-source community clearly prefers ListenBrainz. For example, GoToSocial has integrated ListenBrainz. If I hadn't already become so deeply invested in Last.fm and been put off by ListenBrainz in the past, I might be on ListenBrainz now on both Last.fm and ListenBrainz right now (), plus the lastfm API is really generous!
There's also teal.fm, but it's just been saying "Coming Soon"?

(1/n)话说Last.fm真的算是scrobble音乐的霸主了
我用过LibreFM:(需要加入WaitList然后等待半个月让作者给你发注册信息,界面非常简单,而且几乎没有教程,开始在找如何像last.fm一样连接spotify,后来才知道是用WebScrobbler插件);
ListenBrainz:(应该算是Lastfm最大的对手?前一阵子好像 CEO 创始人去世了;开源社区驱动,但是API速率限制比较大!比如用multi-scrobbler从last.fm同步大量记录会疯狂报错429);
Maloja:(自托管,但是数据源是通过multi-scrobbler同步过去的,意思是我还是在用Lastfm,只是换了一个前端UI,而且功能页面也比较简陋,也就首页专辑墙能看看了,我已经停止托管Maloja和multi-scrobbler很久了);
但是都没有lastfm那么直观易用,生态那么完善(比如从流媒体Spotify、本地播放器MusicBee、浏览器插件WebScrobbler,还有社交发现属性,等等等等);
还有teal.fm,但是一直在Coming Soon?

Sounds great, Ben. Thanks. :)
Another question: how does an album with multiple artists look in Bandwagon? For instance, a compilation with various artists.
Per comment from Rob of #WebScrobbler - see github issue in earlier toot - and after checking myself, it looks like an album page on Bandwagon does not mention the artist per each single song, but just for the entire album. If there would be multiple artists, how would that then work? Or is multiple artists per album unavailable for now?
-
@benpate
Cheers for the response, Ben. I don't have any music to host, so in that sense I'm not necessarily interested. Sorry! 😅When I issued my request to #WebScrobbler to support scrobbling plays from #Bandwagon I simply mentioned that it may need an implementation that can detect from Bandwagon on bandwagon.fm and other servers. And they asked me for an example of an other server.
But if there is no other server running Bandwagon for now, I'll let them know.
Regardless of my original question: thanks for the nice work on Bandwagon. 👌
-
I see on bandwagon.fm the mention "Anyone can run their own Bandwagon server and share their music on a site they control. This server (Bandwagon.fm) is the flagship domain for the Bandwagon project; the first of many that we hope will join us in the near future."
So far I've only seen posts of music on bandwagon.fm instead of music on someone own's server with the bandwagon protocol. Does anyone have a link to bandwagon music that is not on bandwagon.fm itself?
This concerns this github issue to get #Bandwagon music scrobbled by #WebScrobbler:
https://github.com/web-scrobbler/web-scrobbler/issues/5827@benpate , maybe you have examples, since Bandwagon is your app?

It's been a month since I set up #piCorePlayer with Lyrion Music Server (LMS) on my old Raspberry Pi 3 model B+ with #HifiBerry DAC Pro. Via the digital audio converter, the Pi is then connected to my stereo amplifier.
There's not really anything to look at. It's just a small box with cables in my combined bookcase/record cabinet.
At the same time, it's pretty great. 😍
Since I have no #streaming service subscription, this is a great way to play all the #FLAC and #MP3 files that I received with #record purchases, bought or received from #Bandcamp, and ripped from the CD's that I own. It also connects to Bandcamp, so you can listen to Bandcamp Weekly etc., or radio stations that broadcast online (, too).
Attached to this toot some screenshots of the desktop web version of LMS.
Submitting plays to #ListenBrainz via #WebScrobbler does not seem to work, so when controlling LMS via my laptop there are no scrobbles. -

If you are the sort that likes to scrobble your music listening habits, we have #webscrobbler support for the Radio and coming soon, TV#PanoScrobbler works as well on Android.

@limebar Thanks! Happy to help :)
I'll admit, the main motivation behind this was that I love scrobbling music and needed some way to make that possible with #TIBtv 😅 But of course now everyone can benefit from these integrations.
Thanks to you and the #TheIndieBeat team for launching this thing in the first place, and implementing my feature requests!
If anyone wants to track progress on the #WebScrobbler connector, the pull request is here: https://github.com/web-scrobbler/web-scrobbler/pull/5771

me: "Let's see how hard it might be to implement Web Scrobbler support for Podigee's embedded player."
the Podigee player: "fun fact: I know the name of the episode, but not the name of the podcast. have fun setting the 'artist' metadata field."
😑

I'm not sure how I missed this last month, but you can now #scrobble @radiofreefedi using #webscrobbler
I went on a connector building binge awhile back, so apparently they are now available to use.
-
@axwax @limebar @radiofreefedi @mirlo
RFF connector down, I’ll tackle the Mirlo connector tomorrow. Been on a #WebScrobbler connector heater lately 😂
-
@n8chz I'm learning new terms, thank you!
I've been testing #ListenBrainz for the past few months, and I feel like it also has a #PESOS -ish approach.
I can listen to music on different platforms (web, mobile) and services (#Bandcamp, #Tidal, YouTube, SoundCloud, #Spotify, etc.), #scrobble/track those listens with a variety of open source apps like #WebScrobbler and #PanoScrobbler, and it all comes together in a single list of listens tracked in real-time.
https://listenbrainz.org/add-data/
(1/2)
-
Talking about #WebScrobbler, while there is already a connector for #JamCoop streaming, no-one's made one for @radiofreefedi and @mirlo yet.
For the latter there is already an issue at https://github.com/web-scrobbler/web-scrobbler/issues/4448 , but it has become stale.
I did manage to cobble something together for the main #RFF channel (but only on my local copy of the extension), but got lost trying to add comfy and special too.
-
Wow!
First of all, thank you for your excellent taste 😂
Secondly, there may just be the thing for you:
I've ditched lastfm for ListenBrainz, which I can scrobble to from my phone using #PanoScrobbler and on my desktop straight from my media player (#MusicBee) or my browser using #WebScrobbler.
There are a few things that don't get scrobbled, most sadly #Faircamp, but on the plus side one can create nice collages and stats of what they listened to, eg https://listenbrainz.org/user/axwax/stats/?range=this_week
-
I am just absolutely itching for #webscrobbler to push the latest update to iOS and iPadOS. My new connector is in there for the new webapp I’ve been working on over the last 6 months. I’m excited to show it off.
Here’s a little sneak peek

@ultimateriff Aha, via a #foobar2000 github plugin I found yet another API URL to scrobble to the #ListenBrainz server: https://api.listenbrainz.org/1/submit-listens
This works nicely for #WebScrobbler, in combination with your personal token, although I'm shown as 'anonymous'. For #QuodLibet this doesn't work, however.

@ultimateriff Nice. I created an account, imported from libre.fm, which worked nicely although missing a few thousand plays. Not sure what went wrong there.
Can't get it to work in #WebScrobbler though, nor in #QuodLibet that I use as music player on my computer. The former has #ListenBrainz as possibility, but just opens my profile and that's it. The latter states that it authenticated my account succesfully, but nothing pops up on playing things.
Will need to dive into this a bit more. 😅

The obligatory #introduction post
I'm a Canadian web dev & designer who's a huge music data nerd. I've been scrobbling to #lastfm since 2004. I regularly contribute connectors to #WebScrobbler. I love exploring new music through radio. I'm a #KEXP sustaining member. I also love #TheCurrent #WFMU #WXPN #BBC6.
I'm a #xennial who recently discovered I'm #neurodivergent, so that's fun.
