Coming back from #easterhegg and seeing a lot of "dips" in the transfer speed, where it will go down to 0 for 1-2 seconds and be fine again afterwards.
Wtf did Telekom do when "they prepared the distribution point for fiber" last time they were here?
Still debating if I should try to explain this issue to 1&1 support to have them talk to Deutsche Telekom or if I wait until next month were I'm their customer to let them figure it out after they gave me the better SLA :p

So replaced the long DSL cable that ships with the FritzBox with a 1m long one. Let's see if that helps to stabilise the vDSL more.
Now instead of 255m it reports "only" 249m total length. It took a hot second to sync and at first said it doesn't have a connection at all. So not that optimistic, but now I've it already here and therefore I may as well just give it a shot.

I just discovered, when your #FritzBox does shit like this, writes something about a PPPoE error into the system log and therefore doesn't automatically reconnect it helps to enable the "DSL diagnostics mode" in the debug options.
For whatever reason having that option enabled makes it so that the fritzbox detects these kinds of #vDSL issues suddenly.
I've a ticket open right now (not updated with the Diagnostics mode info yet, as that was a lucky coincidence I discovered today)

Also anyone know why vDSL could become unstable when you're 100% saturating your downstream for a long time?
Last week I did something similar and the DSL connection at some point started to constantly cut out. Stopped the transfer for a few days and now restarted it. So far everything looks stable, but so it did last time at first(Last week it was about 14TB, I'm backing up a total of 25TB over VDSL with Profile 35b btw)

Also die Draytek Vigor 130 DSL Firmware ist bissl buggy was VDSL2 17a angeht ... es verbindet geht ins Training ... dann auf Ready und geht nicht in den Showtime sondern reconncected instant wieder. Eine stabile Verbindung ist nicht möglich. War auch bissl seltsam, dass ich keinerlei ATU-C Informationen (also die DSLAM Chipsetinfo) gemeldet bekommen habe. Da war alles ausgenullt.
Nach etwas Recherche scheint die Modemfirmware bei einigen Firmwarerevisionen einen Bug zu haben was zu inkompatibilitäten zu dem ein oder anderen DSLAM Chipset führt (Ikanos in meinem Fall). Ich habe jetzt mal etwas die Modems mit unterschiedlichen Firmwareversionen rotiert. Eine funktionierende scheint die 3.8.1.1 vom 20.03.2017 (13:26:38) zu sein. Die verbindet und scheint soweit stabil.
Jetzt kann ich die anderen auch noch durchprobieren...

Ich benötige mal die Schwarmintelligenz des #Fediverse. Bitte boosten, damit dieser Post etwas an Reichweite gewinnt.
Ich komme leider mit meinem VDSL2 Setup an meinem DSLAM irgendwie nicht weiter. Kurz gesagt ich möchte eine FRITZ!Box 7490 per VDSL2 (Profil 17a) mit meinem Zhone Bitstorm HP-150 verbinden und quasi ISP im Heimnetz spielen.
Mittels ADSL2+ war mein Setup bereits möglich und funktioniert auch einwandfrei.
Ich hab momentan 2 Ports am DSLAM aktiv, die 3 und die 15, wobei an der 3 die FB7490 hängen soll über VDSL2. Leider funktioniert im DSLAM das Default Profil nicht für VDSL, aber die Box sollte das eigentlich können. Testweise ist der Port-15 (eigentlich für ADSL in meinem Setup gedacht) deaktiviert.

Vor einer Stunde #Stromausfall in #Leipzig #Reudnitz für eine knappe Viertelstunde. Danach hat das #VDSL-Modem sehr lange fürs Synchronisieren gebraucht und läuft jetzt mit circa 1 MB/Sek downstream.
Mein Teenager-Ich hätte sich darüber gefreut, aber heute fühlt sich das an wie Internet-Steinzeit 😱

e.on-Westconnect wollte heute aufwändig den #Glasfaser-Anschluss über unsere Waschküche vornehmen, anstatt den Mehrspartenanschluss der Stadtweke #Solingen im Technikraum zu nutzen. Gerüchteweise, weil sie die Gebühr für die Leerrohrnutzung nicht zahlen wollen. Wie auch immer, dann bleibe ich eben bei #VDSL.

Wir haben Internet. Sort of.
Für ein Gewerbegebiet, das keine 500m Luftlinie vom Hauptbahnhof weg ist, ist das ein wenig … dünn. Mag uns jemand zeitgemäßes/schnelleres Internet empfehlen? Vielleicht von einem lokalen Akteur? Gerne per PM.

Lift and Shift on the DSLAM last week fixed my Broadband, it had been perfectly stable for a whole week. So last night I put the took the test modem out and it failed again.

Bad #QRM in a part of #Scotland making 2 metres (VHF 144-145 MHz) #amateurradio unusable - Trevor suspects #interference from #VDSL telephone lines (he even turned off the electricity to his entire house and still had this issue).
It might not even be telephone lines but cheap power supplies in adjacent buildings - this is a big problem in urban areas, I can barely listen to FM radio (Band II, 87,5 - 108 MHz) in some parts of my house
