I had a similar itch and turned it into a project to teach myself FreeRTOS, ESP-IDF (on ESP32 DevKitC), KiCAD, PCB layout and ordering, parts sourcing, hand surface mount soldering, FreeCAD, 3D printing, MQTT, and rewrote parts of SNTP and wrote a robust linear regression algorithm for tracking rate and phase error. I developed it during the CoVID-19 pandemic. I had worked with similar things in my embedded software career but never done all these things myself. And used no AI. There is no wrong way to do this. My result looks similar and uses many of the same parts (initially via Adafruit, then direct from Digikey and Mouser). It's a journey of self-reward. #sntp #clock #project #smd #embedded #hobby -

Reparatur der #FritzBox7590 erfolgreich. Ein kurzgeschlossener MLCC im 14-V-Step-Up-Wandler für das VDSL-Frontend legte die komplette Spannungsversorgung lahm.
Symptome: Netzteil in Strombegrenzung, heiße SS16, keine LEDs. Nach Entfernen des MLCC bootete die Box sofort wieder. Jetzt bekommt sie noch einen neuen Kondensator. 🔧 Versand ist wieder das teuerste 😭 .#FritzBox #AVM #Elektronik #Reparatur #RightToRepair #SMD #VDSL

Working on my new entry for single-layer #PCB championship.
No through holes. No vias. 3D design: overlapping components. Board edge is a suggestion. 2nd layer is actually not on the PCB but in hyperspace. All #SMD . Even audio jack, after flipping on its back. USB micro B. One LGA and one BGA chip each for taste.
I hope the 0.2mm traces don't etch away. If they do? No biggie.

Как я сделал брелок на ATtiny13, научил его трем гипнотическим режимам и превратил в набор для пайки
Представьте: маленький брелок лежит в кармане. На нём — мордочка кота из популярного мема. Нажимаешь кнопку на затылке — и в центре головы загорается круг из двенадцати ярких SMD-светодиодов. Два огонька начинают бегать по кругу с коротким хвостом. Ещё одно нажатие — и запускается спиннер: три луча вращаются по часовой, потом три круга против. Третий режим — маятник, три светодиода плавно качаются взад-вперёд, как загипнотизированный взгляд. Четвёртое нажатие — и всё гаснет. Батарейка CR2032 отдыхает. Всё это работает на самом дешёвом микроконтроллере ATtiny13. Четыре пина управляют двенадцатью светодиодами через Charlieplexing. Никаких Arduino, никаких сдвиговых регистров.

Ah je vous mets une petite pépite de #GALÈRE, parfois ça arrive et là c’est immortalisé dans un film ! 😅 Soudure d’un condensateur SMD, une des pastilles est reliée à un plan de masse, ce qui a pour effet de dissiper rapidement la chaleur et de gêner la soudure. Mon fil de soudure est un poil gros (⌀ 0,5 mm) et difficile à doser, je n’en avais probablement pas mis assez pour commencer. Le liquide répandu au début, c’est du flux de #soudure, ça aide à faire baisser la tension superficielle du mélange en fusion.
C95 juste au-dessus, qui présente les mêmes caractéristiques, a été soudé sans anicroche.

over 1.5 years ago i was "gifted" fancy anker powerbank that had had a smol water incident and failed. looking inside (RIP the case) there is an obviously failed SOT-89 but i am totally stumped trying to figure out what it is (or was). now trying to tidy my workbench i am looking at it again...
the SMD code reads "8DP__" with the damaged characters probably being "KR" from a teardown on youtube. it has failed with pins 1 and 3 shorted which adds to the confusion, but one of those pins is gnd/0v and the only candidate i can find when searching the code has gnd on pin 2 so that seems not a match...?
i could just rip out the cells and recycle them in to some other housing, but that seems kinda wasteful seeing as the rest of it might just be fine apart from 1 component...
(or there is something else somewhere that has failed and is shorting those pins together... i guess i should try and setup the hot air soldering thing my lovely partner got me for christmas and try and remove it...)
