Shannara Chronicles by Terry Brooks.
Like Raymond Feist, Brooks was prolific, had an epic vision, and got better at his craft as he went. I've read every novel he ever published twice, and will probably start on a re-read in the next few years.
What I will say to encourage people to read him is that there really is a truly EPIC vision working like muscles under skin to move each series forward. This is epic post-apocalyptic high fantasy that turns into steampunk epic high fantasy before he was through. It only took like 40 years to get it all told, and he only recently finished.
The first time I read it, I read in published order. WRONG! I'm voracious, so I powered through the meandering early books, and discovered the gems that come later. Most readers will stop before they get to the gems.
Read the gems first, fall in love with the world, then you can tolerate the early books when you get to them, because you will be invested.
Read it in chronological order, like this:

That way the epic starts at the beginning, somewhere in the 1990s, and you get to see the slow destruction of the Earth, the plight and flight of people as their numbers dwindle to near extinction, and finally the last refuge before the world is reborn with Magic ascendant, and Science a long-forgotten nightmare.
The course of The Shannara Chronicles is also much broader in scope than almost any other fantasy author. He plots his epic over tens of thousands of years, generation after generation of magically-infused families organized under the authority of the Druids.
Elves, dwarves, trolls, and bizarre machine-flesh hybrids populate this post-apolypse. Read it all tip to tail and you will never look at the Pacific Northwest the same, again.
