Farenheit Ammonite on Stage in Tasmania

Look what I discovered today:

Acclaimed company Here Theatre has returned with an ensemble of Tasmanian and Victorian theatre makers to develop Fahrenheit Ammonite, a world bending new play by Kit Lazaroo, directed by Dr Jane Woollard. Critics have long admired Lazaroo’s work, calling it “first rate, sometimes clever, sometimes truly inspired”, and “an exemplary demonstration of how theatre can be political and contemporary without being didactic or simplistic” […] The play draws inspiration from Fahrenheit 451, Richard Adams’s Watership Down, and Nicola Griffith’s Ammonite. Lazaroo began the script as a retelling of Bradbury’s novel from Mildred’s perspective, imagining how she might resist the limitations imposed upon her by her creator, and what text she might choose as her own reason to survive. Into Mildred’s journey Lazaroo has woven Clover the Rabbit, and later the endangered Goth from the Planet Jeep, creating a tapestry of voices that challenge, subvert, and expand the canon. — University of Tasmania

I'm always on the lookout for secondhand #books. This time I managed to buy #RichardAdam's #WatershipDown sequel, #TalesfromWatershipDown, for Mum. She's a superfan of the original 1978 film and 1972 novel. Right after taking me to see the film in '78, she bought the tie-in paperback edition and read it obcessively on the bus to work. We didn't know about the sequel (or perhaps had forgotten it existed), so we're very happy with this first edition hardback.

I finished #2000AD's collected #LukeKirby book, #SummerMagic, that I started a month ago. It ended a little sad, perhaps similar to the feeling one gets after watching or reading #WatershipDown. I'll talk about it in the pod.

Looks like reality is catching up with fiction.

The map shows an overlay of new development in Newtown, UK. It sounds like development has already started in the red area, and will expand to the black area.

The marker for “Sandleford Park” is a possible location of Sandleford Warren featured at the beginning of Richard Adams’ book, Watership Down.

In the book and movie, Sandleford Warren is destroyed, killing most of its rabbits, to make way for a six-acre housing development. A real-life local effort opposed this development, but they announced last year they had failed.

The jagged border at the bottom shows the River Enborne that Hazel and his group crossed early in the story.
