Today I documented the moss species in the area. But this macro photo was taken without a plan, just the sun was shining at the time and the moss was full of water. I realized that it is almost impossible to have predictable conditions. Light, water, temperature, and other factors. I never know when something like this will happen.

I like to lay on the ground on wet days to take a photo like this. Moss lives in a small-scale transition space, creating miniature landscapes where humidity and temperature changes are enough to give its leaves what they need.

Fine sand from the lower reaches of the Morava River. The grains are usually smaller than 0.5 mm. Clear crystals can be seen, quite abundantly, which the river grinds on its way perhaps a hundred kilometres from the mountains.

A herd of little blue cows munching on a mushroom. It's not a hallucination. My favorite animal, Tetrodontophora. They're these tiny little cows of the small landscapes. They're about three to four millimeters in size. My favorite mushroom, Schizophyllum commune. It grows on dead wood, and pretty much in any position. And it's hairy if you look closely. This one comes from a little swamp on the edge of the village.

Tetrodontophora bielanensis, different from the video. But here again, you can see the moss leaves he's moving through. Even this creature is about three millimeters long.
The moss leaf beneath this little animal is the thickness of a single cell. At this angle, it somehow became translucent - you can see the micro droplets of water on its reverse side.

What's going on in the moss:
Tetrodontophora bielanensis, this particular one is about 3mm in size. These arthropods live in humid areas, mostly in the mountains. But here it's fine in the flood forest. Indeed, these are blue-grey in colour, like grains of poppies.

Today's wandering through the swamp brought me much joy. Although it was cold and rainy, the colors of the mosses, lichens, mushrooms, trees, everything was all the more distinct. Every ten centimeters or meters I saw something beautiful. These small landscapes never get old. Luckily the water didn't get into my shoes. /1

Photographing mosses and lichens at public transport stops is good fun. This species is my favorite. Probably Grimmia pulvinata. With fine light hairs that form a puff around the moss mound.
