  4. An exciting encounter with the King Cobra (Ophiophagus hannah) at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve on 18 May 2025. It was moving along the walking path, probably hunting. One person was making sure we all gave the Cobra enough personal space.

  5. A female Wagler's Pit Viper (Tropidolaemus wagleri) spotted near the walking path at Windsor Nature Park, Singapore on 1 Jan 2025. An ambush hunter, it stayed still despite all the attention it was getting from passersby. And if you look closely, you can see a mosquito on its snout.

  6. An Oriental Whipsnake (Ahaetulla prasina) spotted at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, Singapore on 27 Dec 2024. This individual was brown; others we've seen are usually green.

  7. This time of the year especially you have to be sure to look before you reach (or step). In this case it was just a harmless ribbon #snake in the #garden hose pot (maybe it thought the striped hose was its big brother?) but there are also a lot of venomous snakes around here.

  8. My first snake sighting in the Year of the Snake 2025, and it's a beauty. The Blue Malaysian Coral Snake (Calliophis bivirgatus), spotted at Thomson Nature Park on 23 Feb 2025. A highly venomous snake, this one was quite calm and not bothered by the crowd watching it (it did not raise its tail as a warning). After spending some time on the walking path, it went back into the forest.

  9. A Striped Bronzeback (Dendrelaphis caudolineatus) spotted at Coney Island, Singapore on 3 Nov 2024. Accidentally startled it while walking through some undergrowth and got these shots before it decide to move off.

  10. Happy New Year 2025. To start off nature observations with a bang, and also prepare to usher in the Year of the Snake, here is a female Wagler's Pit Viper (Tropidolaemus wagleri) spotted at Windsor Nature Park, Singapore.

  11. CW: Images of a snake catching and swallowing a gecko.

A Paradise Tree Snake (Chrysopelea paradisi) spotted catching and swallowing an Asian House Gecko (Hemidactylus frenatus). Spotted at Kranji Marshes, Singapore on 31 October 2024.

Videos of the drama in the comments, with additional descriptions.

  12. A couple weeks ago I ran into this cute little brownsnake, _Storeria dekayi_, when out spidering!! Less than a foot long and quite slender (the first photo was taken with my lowest-magnification macro lens).

They are not rare, but I virtually never come across snakes in my wanderings and I don't think I've ever seen one of these before. I only even knew they existed because of lurking on /r/whatsthissnake! These small harmless creatures mostly eat slugs and snails.

What a special find. I treasure the encounter. (The snake, on the other hand, was mildly annoyed and moved away.)
