I had a great paddle on the mouth of the #RussianRiver on a foggy day this weekend. It was much warmer than it looks! Several harbor seals poked their heads up to give me a looking-over. Or maybe the same seal several times? I did my best to keep my distance, but they popped up all over the deeper parts of the river.

I promise I didn't prop that board on its fin! It's leaning on a conveniently-placed mound of sand.

I pluck up the nerve to go for a walk alone through the forest neighborhood where we’re staying here on the Russian River. Me in my straw garden hat, tan pants I’ve worn every day now, and a dark pink shirt. I undoubtedly look like a vacationer in River drag.
I stop at a wide clearing, looking at my phone to decide how far I want to walk today. An old beige sedan comes down the steep hill and I wave. They slow to a stop and roll down the window. The driver, skinny with a grey beard, shouts out, “Hey, does this road go to Casini Ranch?”
I’m startled by the question, as I assume most people up here know where they’re going. “Oh, I don’t know where that is.” I tap on the search bar to be helpful. “Casini Ranch, you said?”
He pauses, realizing I’m giving Boy Scout vibes, and said “Just say yes” with a wink.
Finally I get the joke. “Ah…yes it does.”
His passenger grins a gap-toothed smile. We wave again and they drive down the road which does not actually go to Casini Ranch.

Via NWS Eureka: I have been waiting on a report for the #RussianRiver…this is an update in #MendocinoCounty Hopland area of the river…A Flood Warning is in effect through Sunday afternoon for the Russian River near Hopland. This river is forecast to reach flood stage late this afternoon and again on Saturday when highways 1, 175 and 222 could close in Mendocino County over the next few days. #CAwx
