I traveled through Redwood National Park on a recent road trip. The National Park Service has been gutted. The restrooms were closed, and the overflowing Porta potties had not been serviced since February (per service tags). Infuriating that we will have so much to repair and restore when the vandal horde has been removed.

Today's hike was at Purisima Creek Redwoods Preserve, on the San Francisco Peninsula. This scene was a pretty spot on the Whittemore Gulch Trail, with some lichen on the redwoods and lots of sword-hilt ferns below the trees. #redwoods #hiking #phtography #sfba

That being said, there are indeed bears.
They just don’t talk.
As an artist, I can tell you that I am blessed with an overabundance of photo reference. Ha!

A short ways off the trail near the Founders Grove in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, I came across this very large fallen California Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens), covered in moss and ferns and slowly returning to the Earth.
Considering it was a good 16 foot at the base and likely about 200+ foot long, it begged the question. If no one was around to hear it, did it still make a noise? 🤔

When hiking through a redwood grove it's as if I can feel the ancient spirits of all things that lived in these groves over time. There is a special mysticism felt as you walk these giants.
