Hooked blackbird & rowan rug
I’ve been working on this piece on and off for 3 years now. When it’s finally finished, it’ll probably hang over a drafty wall I couldn’t bear to risk coffee stains and mud I'd probably cry

The wool comes from the old Youghal carpet factory, that closed down in the 2000s believe
Also me spinning some local alpaca with my cat wingnut in the background ♥️

Trying to post about my first finished #rughooking project seemingly got me banned on 2 of the larger non-regional facebook groups :-( I was careful to make sure that people actually posted works made with yarn and not just wool stripes and I have no idea what got me excluded, maybe me only opening FB every 6 months or so, my post is still pending on the third one, so I am still looking for my rug hooking tribe, anybody here into stabbing cloth to make yarn into fluffy pixelart ?

Finished my first #rughooking project, the Facebook group I posted about it promptly shut down, so you are warned, its made with wool from my stash and the design evolved naturally, have to still iron it, the back looks pretty ok too, on to the next design, I have some neon colored acrylic yarn and I want to try a more pointilistic style and a cyberpunk theme or something abstract

It turns out #rughooking is like slow art, ideal for people with restless hands and decision problems, you may feel like its a blue day or a grass day and you find an area that speaks to you, choose some yarn and hook a patch, also its really near to #pixelart in soft, next project I’ll try a more pointilistic approach

Any #rug hooking people out there? I want to make my first ever hooked rug -- a small one using #fabric strips. I bought a rug hook (2mmx1.25). Is this the right tool, and what washable backing stuff should I use? Should I get Monk's #cloth, or some sort of #canvas? The intent is for a small bathroom rug that I can sometimes wash (maybe by hand).

The shading is finicky, and I pull out and redo about 30% of it. I work on it folded so I don't need a big frame, but it makes mirroring the shading a bit trickier, so I have to spread it out from time to time to see how balanced I am keeping the shading.

I am using at least 8 different shades of yarn for the blues/purples in this stage.

For Folks interested in my "process", most of it is eyeballing measurements and using a Sharpie to sketch things out directly on the work surface.I just finished dividing the sky up into segments/gradients to (hopefully) keep my colour blending in track.

To give an idea of scale, this piece is 3 feet wide from border to border.

Current #rughooking progress:

I am pausing for a bit now because I need to inventory the colour options in my stash and then plan the background palette. I may need to grab a few skeins of #briggsandlittle blues and greens to finish it off.

I will be adding the stems in last with #embroidery.

Hi, all. This is my second migration today, looking for a general interest server.

I listen to #suspense #fiction #audiobooks a lot, and am also into #RugHooking. I love #ClassicFilm but don't watch as much as I'd like because a lot of #TV doesn't mesh well with my and my partner's lifestyle. We listen to a lot of music -- lately it's been #BelaFleck, #BillyStrings, #CrookedStill, #Watchhouse -- and also play music. Well, he plays a 12-string, I strum a #ukulele.

@RohanMaitzen hi Rohan, I’m a crafter too. Top of the list is #knitting (I’m kayray on ravelry) and #sewing, mostly garments but have also done some #quilting.
