My weekend project - fix the corner of the fascia/soffits at my son's house.
Step 1 - cutting out the old/rotted wood and clearing out the bird nest and scat - complete!
Tomorrow is a visit to Menards, where I will save Big Money and get needed wood/supplies.
Debating on a nail gun, tbh.
Then on to the fixing!

Cisterns are especially helpful in areas with unreliable or expensive municipal water systems. We’ll explore the different types of cisterns, describe the benefits each offers, and explain how cisterns differ from wells in the guide below.
Definition of a Cistern
A cistern is a watertight tank that collects and stores water for later use and is typically made of reinforced concrete, cinder block, precast concrete, fiberglass, and steel. Your home’s gutters and downspouts usually funnel rainwater into your cistern, and you can use that water as a supplemental supply, an emergency supply, or for irrigation. Cisterns can also hold groundwater, household greywater, spring water, well water, or treated city water.
Professionals can install cisterns above ground, underground, or into building structures. Burying cisterns underground might be the best option, though, as underground cisterns keep water cool during warm months and prevent it from freezing during colder weather.
Cisterns intended for domestic use typically hold at least 5,000 gallons, but sizes and setups vary according to homeowners’ needs."

Being the only one working on remodeling my mom’s 110-year-old nightmare house with her and my son in it is hard and lonely.
Having something to look forward to and feeling wanted can make all the difference.
I'm giving myself 1-month to get either the bathroom or the kitchen done. 😑

I’m really proud of myself this morning. I just installed a “new” used door at my home. Thanks to my local recycling center and great instructions from PBS’s This Old House, it only cost me $15 and took less than 2 hours to complete the task. 🚪🛠️
When people want to defund things like recycling centers, libraries, or public television, I don’t think they understand the harm they’re doing. These invaluable resources help all of us learn, make, create, repair, do, and more. It’s stupid when conservatives scream about the tiny investments we make in public resources like these given their contributions to lifelong learning and overall benefits to society.

We did a blower test as part of slowly improving the efficiency of of our 110+ year old home.
LOTS of room for improvement. Thankfully several decades of paint have sealed most of the older windows. Our upstairs crawlspaces are the biggest culprits (known).
Might be a summer project to redo them and close up what we can

The family and I went to my parent's house for the day. It was good hanging out with them today. We helped them pick out a few cars to test drive next week. We had lunch together. I helped them with some tech stuff.
We got home and found our house built in the 1800s has several frozen pipes. Bummer! I didn't think to turn the knobs a bit on the faucets to have them drip, which keeps them from freezing. Oh well. We do have a few faucets working, so I'm trying to stay positive.
