A second march for Red Dress Day on May 5 happened along Alberta Avenue (118th Avenue) between 92 and 86 Streets. Red Dress Day commemorates missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people. This march also included missing and murdered Indigenous men and boys.

It's #RedDressDay here in BC. We are remembering the missing and murdered indigenous women. This does not minimise the suffering of others who have gone missing or lost people to violence. No one is being erased or ignored. But these women and girls WERE ignored. Their loss was dismissed and it should not have been. We must mark this day.
In doing so, we can acknowledge that women suffer from violence more than men do, and that women from marginalised groups suffer even more. -

Red Dress Day is an annual event held by the REDress Project in memory of the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls across Canada. The event is held annually on May 5th to honor Hanna Harris who was murdered in Montana in 2013. May 5th would've been Hanna's birthday and was chosen to honor her and all Missing and Murdered Native American Women back in 2017. The first National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Women and Girls happened in the United States of America on May 5th, 2017. Canada followed suit in 2019 and established their own National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and was nicknamed Red Dress Day. Red Dress Day calls attention to the disproportionate rates of violence against Indigenous women and Girls who go missing at 6X the rate of non-Indigenous women and girls. (wikipedia)

Today is Red Dress Day.
The MMIWG report calls on all governments to, among other things, “support the establishment and long-term sustainable funding of Indigenous-led low-barrier shelters, safe spaces, transition homes, second-stage housing, and services for [those] who are homeless, near homeless, dealing with food insecurity, or in poverty, …”
These are the responsibilities that come with a commitment to reconciliation. #NoMoreStolenSisters #RedDressDay

We need to work together to end the violence, to protect our women, and to bring those that have been cruelly taken, home.

The National Council of Indigenous Midwives are urging the gov't to deliver on justice for MMIWG2S+, by recognizing, investing in, and working with Indigenous-led health services like midwifery as a key response to health care issues.

We have a long way to go towards reconciliation. I feel that holding our judicial system accountable to the lack of justice for Indigenous communities is a big part of that.
Municipal, provincial and federal law enforcement agencies all have the blood of MMIWG on their hands.
