P.S. wieviel Energie mir morgens ein Espresso gibt lässt sich nur schwer in Zahlen fassen.

  4. Random Fact:
In Warren Field (Aberdeenshire, Scotland), is what is thought to be the oldest lunisolar calendar ever found.

There, 12 pits appear to mimic the phases of the moon and track lunar months. The calendar would reset on the winter solstice as a form of astronomic correction.

  5. Random bit of today:

In the Southern United States during the 1850s, hand fans were popular accessories, particularly among women, and were not only functional but also served as a means of non-verbal communication, a practice known as "Fanology".
Let the Fan Do the Talking: Flirting in the Victorian Era
Beautiful silk fans like this were used by women to communicate with men. In an age where a woman’s behavior was highly scrutinized, a fan was a discreet means of communicating her feelings.
Throughout the Victorian era, well-to-do society adhered to a strict set of rules and etiquette that governed all aspects of everyday life. The day-to-day life of the average middle-class or upper-class lady was directed by rule after rule, from the time she rose in the morning until the time she went to bed at night. One of the only means of freedom of expression was through coded messages using the lost art of ‘fan language’.

  8. The first computer I used regularly was an i286 running DOS. It had a black and white display and a large 5.25" floppy drive. I had 12-20 games like Alley Cat, Battle Chess, DigDug and Pac-Man clones on single disk. My favourite was Space Commanders II. I was 4 or 5.

  9. I miss MSN Messenger. It wasn't so bad being online only occasionally.

And Solitaire Showdown was great too! I liked the simplicity and the graphics too. Seems I wasn't the only one who loved it. I've just come across a remake project: github.com/T1mmos/cards2.0

  10. Evaporation of water is a problem that many places struggle with today, but one desert solution was created approximately 3000 years ago; Qanat. Not only do the tunnels keep the water out of the sun, but they can also be paired with wind-towers to cool buildings.

  12. #RandomFact The #Norwegian word "grav" can be an order to dig, or a grave.

Which means that the sentence "grav en grav" is an order to "dig a grave".

The word "graver" may mean graves, but it may also mean a gravedigger. #norsk #language

  13. Random #Jinji Fact: I regularly play old arcade and pinball games; and nowadays when I get a highscore and have to enter my name, if it's one of those where you only get three letters to enter I always put "GNG". Not only is it short for "Gengar", but if you pronounce each letter it sounds similar to "Jinji" ;)

  21. #RandomFact Eevee the Pokemon was named after the first two letters "EV" of "Evolution", because, hey English is COOL in Japan in the 90s, also エヴォリューション (Evolution) is hard to say and イーブイ (Eevee) is easier. The Japanese Pokemon use the term 進化 (shinka) for evolution. pokeca.diarynote.jp/2013022122

Also, the English team almost named it Eon instead. So all VaporEon, JoltEon, FlarEon would've made more sense. kotaku.com.au/2020/10/eevee-ge

So technically Eevees are EVs ⚡ 🚗

  26. @sollat I learned just yesterday the stink bug is an invasive species in North America. It has survived so well by the method in which it eats. It "drinks" its food through their straw-like mouth while standing high above their food on their long legs. Those two behaviors helps them avoid pesticides. It pays to listen to science podcasts with my kids 😀🐜 #randomfact #insect #science #wowintheworld

  27. "The Jersey cabbage develops a long stalk, commonly reaching 6 to 10 feet (1.8 to 3.0 m) in height, and can grow as tall as 18 to 20 feet (5.5 to 6.1 m). Historically the stalks were made into walking sticks, of which 30,000 a year were being sold by the early 20th century, many for export. They were also used for fencing and as rafters."
