Also, the funding matter that trump's DOJ might be going after Carroll for perjury over was already addressed and dismissed as an issue in court.
The funding was third-party via a non-profit foundation years after Carroll first brought accusations against trump. Her lawyers sought funding in a contingency case. Carroll didn't know about it.

The whole thing is like a smash-and-grab:
1) Smash with a ridiculous lawsuit
2) Grab freedom from IRS audit or prosecutionAnd the $1.8 billion slush fund (although significant) is a deflection from the real loot, which is number 2 in the previous list.
But Trump, through his Acting AG (his former criminal defense attorney), has effectively preemptively pardoned himself without having to actually pardon himself.

This smacks of guilt. I mean, if #Trump were innocent, why not just let #IRS audit... lots of people get audited.
And then to boot, Blanche (who was Trump's personal criminal defense attorney, btw) throws in "related or affiliated individuals" including Trump's family & companies, which REALLY makes him seem guilty.
But also note it reads "as of the Effective Date of the Settlement Agreement", so it's not a get-out-of-IRS-audit-forever-free card.

The idea that a president might do that might seem crazy.... Certainly presidents have more integrity, right? 😳
Well, maybe on Earth 1.
But when I take my personal perception glasses off and look at it from his perspective given how his previous words & actions have shown him to be, it is possible. After all, Trump 2.0 feels aggrieved and went into his term vowing to do justice for himself and his loyal Jan 6 supporters, so he and his admin might feel perfectly justified.

This was a political move by the #Trump admin too. I thought this earlier when I saw them announcing it in Miami – a city (& state) with many Cuban Americans.
One Spanish-language Telemundo reporter expressed joy that the admin indicted Castro.
Oh, also, I read recently that there are wealthy folks of Cuban heritage who want to go back to Cuba and desire regime change. (The idea being that Trump would effectively set them up as the ruling class.)
