Gladstone was passionate that his personal library 📚️ should be accessible to others and before his death in 1898 he started the process that has led to the library we have today. Legend has it that once a building, made of corrugated iron, had been constructed, he personally, at the age of 80 years, helped to move the books that he was donating, over 20,000 of them, from his castle to the library, with only the help of his valet, and one of his daughters.
