Well, that was “fun”

It seems that some spammer decided to take an epic run at some of my sites. They tried to create a LOT of accounts, all with Yahoo email addresses. Yahoo was not best impressed with my scripts spamming their servers. I’ve hardened the sites against future attacks, added recaptures on a few and a bunch of other mitigations.

I also took an old wiki offline.

In the middle of all that, it turned out that a WordPress install I mostly ignored was broken because of some bad code that I wrote. Figuring that out took a while.

A stressful few hours that have probably left my projects better off.

@liztai I am blocking time every morning to manage my many tickets. Our problem is compounded by using a new documentation system not connected to a git repo yet. So we have no version control while 2 of us are making fundamental changes to docs. I am logging major changes in Jira comments.

Today I spent all my workday to fix some #golang macros on a 5 years old legacy project.

When I say macros ...
It's just a "hack" folder with some configuration that generate go file from some go template that inflates during years.

Some days I think it could be fun to make a web version of my iOS app for those users that are not using iOS. Then I remember what utter hell everything related to the web is. The web was nice back in the web1 days when things were simple, layouts were easy to make with tables and styling was understandable by mere mortals. Now everything is immensely complex and there’s JS everywhere. CSS requires a degree in higher order metaphysics.

Developing for Android is such an awful experience. An older project had to be updated to SDK 33 because Google reasons. Which means updating almost everything in the project build files. And then this pops up when everything seems to have installed, synced ok.

Gradle is such a card house of shit. I should not have to learn a new language just to build a perfectly simple app. Oh, and everything changes all the time in those fucking build files.

Then I ordered out shrimp fajitas for dinner and the vegetables were so spicy that I couldn’t eat them.
