  1. When the Old Version of You Pulls Back

Progress has a pull in both directions. The better things start going, the harder the pull back towards old patterns tends to be. This isn't failure. It's not proof the work doesn't work. It's the oldest version of you reasserting itself. And it deserves a proper response.

  6. Felipe’s been digging through the archives again. This week’s forage looks at what actually reduces cognitive load, and what only looks helpful at first. Gentle pattern recognition, myth-busting, and systems that get out of the way.

  7. Overwhelm isn’t always about doing too much. Often, it’s about carrying too many invisible steps. This post explores hidden cognitive labor, why it drains energy, and how noticing the system—not blaming yourself—can bring relief.

  8. “Simple” systems still require upkeep. Over time, that maintenance can become exhausting. This post explores maintenance fatigue, why even minimal tools drain energy, and how to design systems that don’t collapse when life gets messy.

  9. Feeling exhausted even when nothing “gets done”? Decision-making is real work, even when it leaves no visible output. This post explores decision fatigue, cognitive load, and why exhaustion isn’t a personal failure.

  10. My Pantry, My Power: Cooking, Creativity, and Dignity When Times Are Tight

Hustle culture promotes constant productivity, but true creativity thrives on rest and dignity. Our pantries symbolize power and nourishment, deserving respect without shame. 15. Today was the real start of my semester at UOW. I had a meeting with disability support to get everything in place, since I officially began yesterday. My first tutorial is at 3:30 this afternoon, followed by a lecture straight after. It feels good to be settling in and starting to find my rhythm.

I also contacted HumanWare about my Brailliant Braille display, which has been giving me some issues. Thankfully, it’s still under warranty, so I’ll be sending it off for repairs tomorrow. Fingers crossed it comes back in good shape!

Tonight’s dinner is chicken schnitzel with mashed potatoes and veggies, prepared by my husband, who is an absolutely brilliant cook. I feel very lucky.

  20. It’s the start of winter, and for the first time in a long while, I’m really feeling the cold. I’ve been wearing a cardigan inside, which is unusual for me. There’s something almost grounding about it, though. Maybe it means I’m finally beginning to feel my body more clearly. That in itself feels like quiet progress.

Church today went OK. Rehearsals are still somewhat difficult. I haven’t quite settled back into that rhythm. Once the service begins, though, something shifts. Things tend to flow better, and I can let my voice come through without holding back. My top notes aren’t fully back to where they were before the bout of tonsillitis a few weeks ago, but they’re getting there slowly.

Someone is visiting later, and I’m impatient for the time to pass. Waiting has never been my strength, especially when the day feels stretched thin.

Next week looks more or less the same. I have exercise scheduled for Monday and Thursday, and support appointments on Tuesday and Saturday. Study threads through the gaps. Two online classes this trimester, focused on models of counselling and ethics in the counselling profession.

If I’m honest, the routine is getting a bit monotonous, especially the exercise side of things. Still, repetition isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes it’s what keeps everything else from unravelling.
