Saying the Hard Thing to the People Who Know You Best
You can say the honest thing to a colleague more easily than to the person you share a life with. Not because it matters less. Because it matters so much that the risk of getting it wrong feels significantly higher. The closest relationships are the hardest place to use what you've learnt. -
The Version of You That Comes Home
Every working day produces two versions of you. The version that goes out, calibrated and managed. The version that comes back, which is whatever is left after the day has done what it does. Your partner and children don't live with the first version. They live with this one.https://journalingwrite.wordpress.com/2026/08/14/the-version-of-you-that-comes-home/

The Closest Relationships Are Where the Work Shows
The internal work was never just about you. You exist in relationship. The version of you that shows up for the people closest to you is the fullest test of what the work has actually produced. Not the journal entry. Not the self-knowledge. The version of you that comes through the door.https://journalingwrite.wordpress.com/2026/08/07/the-closest-relationships-are-where-the-work-shows/

Building Yourself at This Age
Building identity deliberately, as an adult, after years of carrying a version that was partly constructed for you, is real work. Not reinvention. Renovation. Deciding what you're not. Giving space to what was compressed. Building new reference points. Becoming, slowly and honestly, someone you can actually recognise as yourself.https://journalingwrite.wordpress.com/2026/07/30/building-yourself-at-this-age/

When It Finally Has a Name
The diagnosis arrived and changed how the earlier chapters read. The school years. The workplace difficulties. The exhaustion that never quite matched the workload. All of it looked different. Clarifying, because you could finally see what was happening. Difficult, because the time it took couldn't be given back.https://journalingwrite.wordpress.com/2026/07/27/when-it-finally-has-a-name/

What’s Actually You
How much of what you think of as your personality is actually yours? Not a rhetorical question. A genuine inquiry: when you name your traits and tendencies, how much of that is genuinely intrinsic, and how much developed in response to conditions you didn't choose and pressures you had no language to resist?https://journalingwrite.wordpress.com/2026/07/24/whats-actually-you/

The Version of You That Was Built for Someone Else
Most of us have a version of ourselves that was built for a specific environment. It built gradually, in response to what the environments around us needed. The question worth sitting with is how much of that identity was chosen, and how much was shaped by pressure you had no language to resist.https://journalingwrite.wordpress.com/2026/07/21/the-version-of-you-that-was-built-for-someone-else/

How can you tell when it's the burnout and not laziness?🤔

When the Old Version of You Pulls Back
Progress has a pull in both directions. The better things start going, the harder the pull back towards old patterns tends to be. This isn't failure. It's not proof the work doesn't work. It's the oldest version of you reasserting itself. And it deserves a proper response.https://journalingwrite.wordpress.com/2026/05/08/when-the-old-version-of-you-pulls-back/

The Step Didn’t Fix It. That’s Fine.
You took the step. Nothing dramatic happened. No clarity arrived. It felt more or less the same as before. That's not a sign the direction was wrong. That's what a real step looks like when the imagined version gets stripped away. The anticlimax is part of it.https://journalingwrite.wordpress.com/2026/05/04/the-step-didnt-fix-it-thats-fine/

The Step You Keep Almost Taking
You know what the next move is. You've written it down. You've seen it across your journal entries. You keep almost making it. This isn't about fear or laziness. It's about waiting for readiness that only ever comes through the step itself. So make the step smaller.https://journalingwrite.wordpress.com/2026/04/30/the-step-you-keep-almost-taking/

So much of ADHD can be boiled down to "I'll just"...
I'll just be a minute!
I'll just finish this thing I do which I love and is neverending, then move on to that urgent task.
I'll just leave this here for now.
I'll just call them later.
I'll just put on my all-is-fine mask.

In proper #ADHD form, the blog I was so excited about 2 months ago will now gather dust until I come up with another use for it.

Adult #adhd is a reality. I speak from experience: Diagnosed at 60. People around me said "That explains a lot." Wish it had happened 50 years earlier.
Check it out. Find out. Step out of the shadows, whatever your age. #adhdawareness #adhdadult

I need an option E: not saying anything because I can’t figure out when is the right time to speak 😆

It’s Friday, which shouldn’t be a special day but it is because I haven’t built that life I don’t need to escape from yet.
What’s one good thing that happened to you this week, my #ADHD peeps?
I got off my butt to work on a #TedLasso tshirt design because I don’t like the cookie cutter designs out there. I just want something nice & retro so I might as well make it myself. Being creative & solving creative problems is food for my soul.
What about you?

"The scholar's greatest weakness: calling #procrastination research."
- #StephenKingI have gotten a lot better at recognizing when I’m using research as an avoidance tactic, but I still catch myself over-researching at times.

Hey fediverse: I’ve launched my #adhd #blog!
I’ve been obsessed w/ building & designing it for 2w now. Finally wrote the About page & a welcome post and realized that I should probably tell people about it.
My intention for it: process my adhd.
I’m 50 & a #LateDiagnosis #ADHDer and have known about it for just over a year. But we moved to a new state and I haven’t had time to really process until now.
Please ck it out so I don’t feel alone 😆

The more I talk to other adults with ADHD who came to their diagnosis as an adult the more it makes me want to scream with rage how poorly we’ve almost all been treated by the medical profession.
Palmed off as depressed, forced onto drug regimes that make the ADHD worse, misdiagnosed and ignored over and over.
But I have this to say, it gets better - keep pushing - keep insisting you’re taken seriously.
