  2. Paid for pro Musicolet features, that's how much I love that app. I rarely pay for pro features for anything, so when I do, it means I'm really using the hell out of the service. It was only $15 for lifetime access- a deal they have going on right now. So if you like Musicolet and want pro features, that's a crazy good deal. Had to jump.

  3. Does anyone know of an android music app that can play tracks downloaded to a folder but doesn't auto play the next track when the current one finishes?

I have to play some music at an event via a Bluetooth speaker and the apps I can find all jump to the next track automatically, but I need to be able to play them individually.

  4. Tauon Music Player Adds Slick Transparency Mode for Linux

A new version of Tauon music player is out, gifting fans of the powerful and unique-looking audio app a raft of new features to play with – including some Linux exclusive eye candy! Tauon 8.0 has been fully ported to SDL3, an efficient cross-platform and open-source multimedia library that provides a robust API for interacting with hardware (like audio devices). Tauon mention that the port provides better stability and scope for adding interesting new capabilities. Features-wise, Tauon 8.0 adds an options menu to the stop button so let users define stop behaviour (including an ‘always’ setting, e.g., ‘always stop after :sys_more_orange:

  5. DeaDBeeF 1.10 Release Brings New Features

A new version of DeaDBeeF music player is out, bringing some cool features, FFmpeg 7 support, and a flurry of bug fixes to long-time fans. The popularity of traditional desktop music player apps has dipped considerably since the arrival of music streaming services like Spotify, which give users on-demand (and often free) access to a far larger catalogue of artists, albums and releases. Still, many people (myself included) have libraries filled with MP3 and other audio files, and do enjoy listening them. I’d wager most such users have (by now) settled on their preferred local music player; for many, that :sys_more_orange:

  6. Clementine Music Player Gets First Non-Preview Release in 8 Years

Remember Clementine music player? Well, it appears to be back in play – some 8 years since its last stable release. While Clementine feels like it’s slipped out of public consciousness in recent years the player has remained under active development. The last stable release was in 2016 (v1.3.1) but a LOT of release candidate builds were issued since (v1.4.0-rc is carried in the Ubuntu repos). However, this weekend the Clementine GitHub added a non-RC build, v1.4.1, marked as a ‘rolling release’. As the first non-RC build in forever this feels notable. The catch? No official announcement has been so :sys_more_orange:

  7. Amarok 3.1 Released with Last.FM Tweaks, Qt 6 Prep + More

A new version of Qt-based music player Amarok is available to download. Amarok 3.1 lands three months after Amarok 3.0, which was the first release in nearly 6 years and saw the audio player’s developers complete their port to Qt 5 (which receives further polish here, in 3.1). But with Qt 6 now out work to port Amarok to Qt 6 and KDE Frameworks 6 has been picking up steam. Thought that effort isn’t complete here, in Amarok 3.1, the team say it’s “not that far away” – so that’s great to hear. Amarok 3.1 overhauls its Last.fm integration plugin :sys_more_orange:

  8. Musique Music Player Ported to Qt 6, Refreshes UI

It’s been a long time since I last wrote about Musique, a desktop music player for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Amazingly, the app is still going as it just got its first major update in nearly 3 years. “This Musique update is the first Qt 6-based release I do. The main effort has been modernizing the look of the app: a more flat and clean style, with rounded artist pics and a nicer toolbar,” writes its developer, Flavio Tordini, on the project website. Musique is a music player in the traditional mould: you point it at a folder full of :sys_more_orange:

  10. MusicPod is a New Music, Podcast, and Radio Player for Ubuntu

A new all-in-one music, radio and podcast player is in development for Ubuntu, called MusicPod. Though MusicPod not an “official” Ubuntu app it is being developed under the umbrella of the Ubuntu Flutter Community, who also maintain that Fluter-based software app we previewed last summer which Ubuntu may use in a future release. The app is built in Flutter and uses Flutter’s “Yaru” design elements to effect a look that’s similar to the GTK theme of the same name but, y’know, without being an actual GTK app. So what can it do? MusicPod Fluter App MusicPod can play local audio :sys_more_orange:

  12. Amberol GTK Music App Gains New Features, Reduces Memory Usage

I’m a big fan of Emmanuele Bassi’s Amberol music player and the latest version, released this weekend adds a couple of pretty big new features. Before I get to those, I will point out that this GTK-based music music player has been updated numerous times since I spotlighted it back in April. UI improvements, including relocating the playlist to the left-hand side of the window, have been implemented; there’s now an option to disable UI recolouring; and comprehensive MPRIS support. Amberol 0.8 is the latest release and it lets you search for songs in the playlist/queue. You don’t need to :sys_more_orange:

  13. Amberol is Fab No-Frills Audio Player for GNOME Desktops

Looking for a simple, focused, no-frills music player that fits in beautifully on the modern GNOME desktop? Check out Amberol. “Amberol aspires to be as small, unintrusive, and simple as possible. It does not manage your music collection; it does not let you manage playlists, smart or otherwise; it does not let you edit the metadata for your songs; it does not show you lyrics for your songs, or the Wikipedia page for your bands,” states Amberol’s Gitlab page. That’s to say all this audio player does is play music and …Well, that’s pretty much it! You do get a :sys_more_orange:
