  1. Second blog on my ten year #SailfishOS journey so far

This second part goes into #apps, and what Sailfish OS looks like in practice for myself. Did I miss an app? What's your favourite Sailfish OS app?

  6. @alexskunz Yeah, #deadbeef is almost there. It's simple, very usefull, it responds quickly to navigation and keyboard commands, can handle very large playlists, supports variety of formats, has a lot of features that look like inspired by #foobar2000. I've got it installed, I'm using it for some tasks.
Unfortunatelly it's playlist view is a custom control and there is no accessibility support for that control. So when using arrow keys to change selection I don't know which item is being selected and what's the text of that item.

  10. I knew about `0xDEADBEEF` but I just found out about all these other “magic” debug values… the iOS ones are particularly funny

  15. I've been looking for alternatives to 2 particular #macOS apps: #applemusic and #applenotes .
For music, I think I've cracked it: #DeaDBeeF player. The macOS version is a nightly but it works perfectly, and lets me sort by album in year order within artist, with all kinds of customisation possible within a simple intuitive UI.
For notes, I may have to return to #joplin which I'm not overly enthusiastic about, but at least it uses #markdown .

  16. High-cost battles? Losers just hit their pain threshold, not brains. Models hacked by nature’s desert-cult logic. 🌵 Study shows theorists got schooled in the war of attrition. #Deadbeef

  17. #deadbeef is a real nice small music player for Linux. Clean user interface, many functions, highly configurable with a very small memory footprint.

But it's "design mode" with which you can rearrange the UI is a deep PITA. Yes, you can customize nearly everything. But the way to do that is a road to hell, likely developed by a weirdo.

  19. DeaDBeeF 1.10 Release Brings New Features

A new version of DeaDBeeF music player is out, bringing some cool features, FFmpeg 7 support, and a flurry of bug fixes to long-time fans. The popularity of traditional desktop music player apps has dipped considerably since the arrival of music streaming services like Spotify, which give users on-demand (and often free) access to a far larger catalogue of artists, albums and releases. Still, many people (myself included) have libraries filled with MP3 and other audio files, and do enjoy listening them. I’d wager most such users have (by now) settled on their preferred local music player; for many, that :sys_more_orange:

  20. Amidst the hype for open-source #Winamp I was desperately looking for a native #Foobar2000 alternative for Linux. Since things went downhill for #DeaDBeeF, especially with Plasma 6, I wanted something equally customizable and with a waveform seekbar and... found it!
Meet #Fooyin, a player that takes FB2K approach, in early yet active development with a big roadmap ahead. So give 'em a star on GitHub if you're an alien head fan like me!

  21. #deadbeef: another great open source and multiplatform #musicplayer that I think it should migrate to GTK4 👇🎶

  22. #DeaDBeeF is the best music player on Linux... I wish it had a better name

  24. Audacious audio player is so good. A low resource usage audio player with lots of features for Linux.
I think I'll replace DeaDBeeF with this since Audacious has a library feature (plus it can look like Winamp!)

It also works on (sorry Mac folks)

Thanks @[email protected] for posting about this!

  26. positively cannot believe that it took me this long to find a good foobar2000 alternative on linux, but #deadbeef sure is it. this has me listening to music on my hard drive again like it's 2014 or sth

  28. Follow-up: I also tried to see if it was any better than - but found you can't bind spacebar to play/pause. That's just crazy. Sticking with Deadbeef.
