Live and recent posts from across the Fediverse tagged #minoritized, aggregated by home.social.

  1. @wilf @Mer__edith "I think it’s stunning that someone would say that the #harms [from "#AI"] that are happening now — which are felt most acutely by people who have been historically #minoritized: #Black people, #women, #disabled people, #precarious workers, et cetera — that those harms aren’t #existential.

What I hear in that is, “Those aren’t existential to me.""

  2. “Many Ukrainians across the country are seeking to erase Russia's influence, to reinforce their independence from a neighbour whose invading troops have destroyed Ukrainian cities and killed thousands. “ - Wartime surge of Ukrainian language brings boons for those who switch reuters.com/world/europe/warti #Language #Ukranian @linguistics #Minoritized #War #Resistance

  3. Michelle Caswell’s Urgent Archives: Enacting Liberatory Memory Work is now #openAccess!!

“Community-based #memory workers must go beyond the recuperation of #minoritized #histories, however important, to catalyze those #histories for #liberation. Liberatory memory work demands activating records for temporal autonomy, self-recognition, and the redistribution of resources.”

There's a kind of knowledge practice we may call 'dignity-based practice'. It respects the dignity of marginalised knowers. It's been…

  5. Unpopular opinion: we should normalize black people coming to Mastodon, being safe and speaking their minds.

They might talk about internal discomfort and biases we might hold.

It's not their responsibility to educate us. It's our responsibility to create a place where black people are accepted.

I was looking at the news this morning and I think it's the perfect time to bring this up.

  6. CW: CW: reporting anti-Black racism in the fediverse

In my report of this user, I was deliberate in my wording for a non-native-English speaking audience and tried to be informative. I hope it was effective, but I don't know that I will ever find out. I hope that others will try to shoulder some of this labor as well so that the #fediverse becomes a more #welcoming place for #minoritized people.

  7. @ChaseTMAnderson I initially joined the Bird because I wanted to hear from people different than myself.

I wanted to be confronted with insights and ideas.

In a free society we don't fear ideas and thoughts.

And if we don't agree or see things quite the same, that's OK I'm not going to give you mess for it.

  8. Thank you @ChaseTMAnderson for the truth! Let #Mastodon be a safe space for the #Minoritized to speak their minds. It is "not the minoritized person’s responsibility, to educate you, coddle you, to do the work for you." We cannot be responsible for creating yet another space, where people are marginalized or silenced.

  13. Normalize Black people coming to this app being safe to speak their minds. What we bring up might abut internal discomfort and biases that you might hold. That is not the minoritized person’s responsibility, though, to educate you, coddle you, to do the work for you. It is your responsibility to not create yet another space where Black people are marginalized or silenced.
I’ve been calculated about bringing this up and now is the time.💖✊🏽

  14. Normalize the knowledge that chosen family is just as important - if not sometimes more healing - than blood family, especially for LGBTQ+ and other minoritized people. All types of families and communities deserve respect.💖🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🦄🦸🏽‍♂️🔥✊🏽

  15. There’s something beautiful when you’re a minoritized person reading academic papers simply because you’re interested in the topic - when you don’t have to read papers because an attending or supervisor is going to berate you, not because you’re minoritized and must be over-prepared at all times because of peoples biases, etc.

Learning for the love of learning. I say this while reading psychiatry papers.💖

  16. Good morning to everyone this morning, and especially to everyone who is minoritized!

You are magical, your voice is so necessary, you are courageous, you are not alone, and you are loved for all the facets of the wonderful human being you are.

    We change the world together.🥰💖🦸🏽‍♂️✊🏽🏳️‍🌈🔥🦄

  17. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone on here for the follows (I think I followed everyone back), the warm welcome to this app, and for all the awesome posts you all are doing, the pictures, and the conversation.

It was nice to have a day as a Black, gay person where I didn’t feel as anxious about what I would run across online or what would happen online. Sleep well everyone.🥰💖🦄🏳️‍🌈🔥🦸🏽‍♂️✊🏽

  18. The day is here! I am so excited to be giving UCLA's Marschak Colloquium today, on "Quantitative Approaches to #Criminal and #SocialJustice: Mitigating #Inequity for Racially #Minoritized Individuals in #Policing, #Sentencing, and #Incarceration". Here is literally my entire talk summarized on one slide.
