Also, #MailMaven has no capacity to search/categorize on arbitrary combos of arbitrary headers. Just Mail.app-like :(
I am so spoiled by #MailMate.

I love #MailMate on #macOS. IMHO the best mail-client ever. I am searching a mail-client for #Linux that shows me (best in #KDE) while I am not using it in a panel unread mails in different folders (like 3 unread counters for 2 Inboxes and 1 folder). With Mailmate I have those as icon badges and in the menu-bar.

I am also a longtime #MailMate user/fan. It was the first macOS MUA since Eudora became untenable that didn't make me want to find a new MUA. Nothing in the past dozen years has made me want to change. The best part of it is the author (Benny Kjær Nielson) who is an active and always helpful participant in the support mailing list.
(NOTE: I'm biased because he implemented literally *all* of the suggestions I gave him when I first tried it.) https://social.secret-wg.org/@olaf/114217255061061021 -

A recent(ish?) change to Apple’s app-specific password setup — required in cases where 3rd-party calendar or mail apps are accessing system info — is that they no longer allow you to retrieve those passwords should you need to re-enter them (say on another device), so store them safely in Passwords.app or 1Password. The only option now is to revoke-and-regenerate which, depending on the sitation, could involve lots of tiresome fiddliness. #Apple #passwords #macOS #iOS #Fantastical #MailMate

Everything is Broken in #macOS, Chap. 653:
All of a sudden, banner-style notifications for some apps have (including #MailMate) have started appearingly only very FLEETINGLY on my Mac. In other words, instead of staying visible for a few seconds before going away, they go away as soon as they appear. Blink and you might miss them.
Banners for other apps still work as expected.

One of the things I really miss after moving to #Linux from macos is the power that #Mailmate gave me. #Thunderbird does get close but lacks a bunch of things. #Betterbird has been working well for my needs. One feature I miss is the distortion mode from Mailmate (https://freron.com/screenshots/) as I tend to share my screen a bit. Does anyone know of any plugin/setting that would help? Tried looking for loremipsum, obfuscate, etc., but to no avail.

#LittleSnitch has a network filter that asks the user for approval of any connection for which it does not have an existing rule, matching the app, protocol, target IP, and port. It builds a ruleset from those choices. The problem it has is for cross-app requests like clicking a link in #MailMate for Safari to open: which app is the relevant one?

Found an interesting bug in #LittleSnitch, a connection gatekeeper for #macOS that I know many people in #InfoSec use and/or help others use.
If you have a program which is NOT a web browser (in my case, #MailMate, an excellent macOS MUA) in which you click an URL, the app dispatches that request to the OS, which figures out which app handles that sort of URL and opens it, telling it to fetch the URL. This falls into a gap in how LS works#IWeep6Colors… (1/3)

Gave up on #macOS #Mail long ago myself and am a happy #MailMate user, but my wife still uses Apple’s software. Yesterday she complained about having to manually flag as junk a message that got through the cracks, and the simple act of selecting the message forced her to see a graphic picture of an enlarged penis.
I went to check how to stop Mail from auto-loading embedded pictures and I found this UI. So now you can no longer block remote content without DISABLING “Protect Mail Activity”?

TFW your shiny Mac Pro kernel panics when you try to initiate a screen recording, reboots automatically, resumes most apps, and then all of a sudden decides to display a notification for new mail arriving in #MailMate not as a BANNER, as specified in System Settings › Notifications, but… as an ALERT requiring user dismissal.
Of course, it only happens once and then things go back to normal.
Whatever, Apple, whatever…

I wish Apple’s mail.app wouldn’t just make my mac hot-af whenever I’m trying to use it. It’s the only app that makes mac unbearable hot and literally unusable. Tried #Thunderbird and #Mailmate but both of these lack conversation view like in gmail/mail.app.

I gave up on Apple’s #Mail app for #macOS several years ago and I am a very happy #MailMate user, with built-in support for @mjtsai’s #SpamSieve and with a built-in feature for filing mail away with the keyboard that works just as well for me as #MsgFiler (which I had) did in Mail.
However, #Mail is still used and will continue to be used by several people I support, and I have set them up with SpamSieve, so I will have to monitor the situation closely. https://mastodon.social/@mjtsai/110544002523032547

@thatkruegergirl well, it’s awful on macOS as well. Mmmm perhaps that’s no relief. #MailMate

@ike More modern than #Gmail *and* everything else you’re looking for? That’s a tall order. #Thunderbird has a lot of it, including a markdown plugin, but has to fight against its old-school reputation. #MailMate is a utilitarian power-user’s client for MacOS, but it’s not free. #Mimestream is a trendy, slick native Mac Gmail client, but doesn’t support scheduled send, and it’s in beta with unknown pricing.
I used #Kiwi for a while, but always seem to end up back running Gmail in a browser.

omg omg omg @sylumer also has a post about creating a #Mailmate bundle to funnel newsletters from the firehose into #Readwise Reader which i am also way into. i am so excited that you're a mailmate user! hey @tvs_nicole you still using Mailmate? check out https://www.thoughtasylum.com/2023/02/20/mailmate-redirect-bundle-generator/ if you still are!
-
#MailMate selbst kommt auch vor und das in drolliger Gesellschaft.
-
Oh, mit *dem* Beispiel-Filter trifft #MailMate den persönlichen Nerdfaktor vor dem Monitor ganz gut.
-
@ehler there are a plethora of mail apps, so as long as you have one that fits your needs, you're good. I liked #mailmate for the speed and Markdown support. On mobile I use #Spark, but would prefer a *good* Markdown mail client.
E-mail makes up a large proportion of my work (where I use a Indies PC), but I actively limit how much e-mail interaction I do outside of work for my own sanity.
I don’t really need to use e-mail or other comms links anywhere other than mailto: links.
-
I have been really enjoying using #ReadwiseReader recently to help get back on top of the information I try to consume daily.
I hav begun passing through some select back copies of unread email newsletters into it based on interesting looking content headings. I am doing this from #MailMate, my e-mail app on the Mac via a redirect using a bundle.
I've built a little redirect bundle creator script and explained the details in a new blog post.

@EshuMarneedi @ivory The fact that I don’t like the way that Apple makes apps for the Mac in 2023 is indeed a problem. I am looking for Mac software that refuses to follow Apple’s lead blindly and strives to preserve what I feel is REAL “Mac-ness”. One shining example for me right now is #MailMate. Now THAT’s a real Mac app as far as I am concerned. Tight, lean, fast, powerful, with no frills, no silly animations. It’s not perfect (nothing is), but it is a real model to follow.
