  2. I've seen a lot of posts lately about #LittleSnitch which has been on my radar for a while. It supports #Linux now which is great. But it's not fully opensource.

I found #opensnitch and wow it's great. Reminds me of what I consider to be "peak windows" days, early 2000s when the zonealarm firewall was popular.

    #Nostalgia will getcha!

  3. I saw that Little Snitch is now available for #Linux.

As far as I’m aware, there’s already #OpenSnitch for Linux.

  4. 🐧🔍 Ah, rejoice! Now you too can micromanage your #Linux box like a paranoid control freak with Little Snitch for Linux, because who doesn't want to spend their days playing whack-a-mole with network packets? 🤡✨ Finally, achieve the zen state of network distrust while praying to the BTF kernel gods to bless your noble quest. 🙄🙏

  5. I installed OpenSnitch github.com/evilsocket/opensnit (h/t to @Viss for finding it!), which is a Linux app like the Mac's awesome Little Snitch.

This is a *great* thing for keeping an eye on out-bound network connections so you can block anything unexpected. You'll know right away if something calls home; telemetry, advertising crap, malware, etc.

Initial setup is painful though due to the zillion notifications from whatever you're already using. Worth it though!

New #blog post up now re: combining #AdGuardHome with rotating stable of #DNSCrypt resolvers, with #Tailscale #E2EE over #Mullvad exit nodes, and #Caddy obtaining certificates for #DOHsij.law/dns/

  8. #LittleSnitch has a network filter that asks the user for approval of any connection for which it does not have an existing rule, matching the app, protocol, target IP, and port. It builds a ruleset from those choices. The problem it has is for cross-app requests like clicking a link in #MailMate for Safari to open: which app is the relevant one?

  9. Found an interesting bug in #LittleSnitch, a connection gatekeeper for #macOS that I know many people in #InfoSec use and/or help others use.
If you have a program which is NOT a web browser (in my case, #MailMate, an excellent macOS MUA) in which you click an URL, the app dispatches that request to the OS, which figures out which app handles that sort of URL and opens it, telling it to fetch the URL. This falls into a gap in how LS works

Some delays on posting to my new Hugo blog because I'm trying to get a clean working setup on my new Mac Mini! It's quite a task to manually move over from a 10y+ computer to a new one! Gonna try to install some alternatives while I'm at it; e.g. instead of , instead of , instead of ... Also looking into versions of , like or . And cheers to , I can't imagine installing each by .dmg!
