Ich finde es enttäuschend, dass wir in 2025 noch immer keine berührungslosen Touchscreens à la #Kinect, Intel #RealSense und besonders #LeapMotion standardisiert haben. Ich hab mich vor 15 Jahren so da drauf gefreut. Man könnte unzählige coole, nein: praktische Bedienungsmethoden damit schaffen. Das Konzept ist weniger präzise als ein Touchscreen, aber das reicht doch für ganz viele Anwendungsfälle schon aus. Die zwei ergänzen sich.

Heads up VTubers. Ultraleap (makers of LeapMotion and StereoIR 170) are basically dead, Their IP got sold to patent trolls, their tech to a musical instrument manufacturer and half their staff have already been laid off.
Since there isn't really any viable alternative for VTuber hand tracking, if you were planning to buy one of these you probably should do so soon.
If you already have one, you should keep local copies of your preferred driver versions, and take steps to protect your USB port (especially if using chest mount)

@thegibson Setting up #Debian on #musl #voidlinux to #chroot into for installing #leapmotion software to control my new hand/motion tracker/controller, only for the software to spit out this:
Error: Missing Dependency: glibc
Thought I could cheat the system. Long story short, installed the GLIBC variant of Void on a USB, booted into it, and redid the process of converting and installing (guide coming soon).

With the Ultraleap Leap Motion Controller 2 there's a very clear improvement and I'm already working on new trigger gestures to go along with the continuous gestures. I'm hopeful that this time around playing notes with gestures will feel inspiring and musical.

Going through my office closet and ran across the Leap Motion controller I bought and used for five minutes when they first came out in 2013. I'm surprised to find that it's still a popular piece of hardware (particularly for streamers/vtubers). I'm not shocked that something like the Leap Motion is useful for those groups but, after 10 years, I expected it to be considered obsolete. #LeapMotion #vtuber #streaming #tech

One of the members of the #HardwareHackLab brought a #LookingGlass display tonight. And I must say I'm quite amazed. I was skeptical at first. Videos of the device don't render well, I think. But seeing it for real, it's quite bluffing. The 3D impression totally works. And coupled with a #LeapMotion , makes it a fun interactive tool.
