Ich bitte um einen Tipp aus der #Admin bubble. Nach einem #upgrade bei meinen #Server geht nun leider #Kopano gar nicht mehr. Kopano ist schon länger tot, lief aber noch gut mit php7.4 paralell. Doch nun gibt es zu viele Abhängigkeitsprobleme.

Ich suche einen einfach zu konfigurierenden IMAP Server für ubuntu und 5-6 postfächer, dem ich von fetchmail und getmail aus die mails übergeben kann um ihn dann über imap protokoll vom Client zu benutzen.

Ich betreibe seit Jahren eine private #Nextcloud zusammen mit einem privaten #Kopano Mailserver. Da die Community Edition von #Kopano (ich habs geliebt) leider schon länger tot ist, wirds höchste Zeit für einen Wechsel. Nur was nimmt man da? Theoretisch würde ein popeliger #Dovecot integriert in #Nextcloud reichen. Oder versuche ich mich wieder an einer Groupware und probiere mal #Grommunio

I like Open Source Software. But the UI of #Kopano is that difficult to use, that I'm supporting jumping over the same issues with UX again and again. That's no fun.

* Same feature set as MS Exchange (e.g. Calendar, Groupmailboxes)
* Fully Outlook compatible
* Opensource if possible

We then decided us for #Kopano, which was the only Outlook compatible solution available. Grommunio (then still called Grammm) wasn't available yet.

The Z-Push ActiveSync interface of my employer's #Kopano is that slow at times (of load), that I added IMAP for mails now. And that's way faster on my mobile.

[Oh, and it's the same way my @thunderbird works. And I really like that due to the amazing work of John Bieling who authored #TbSync, implementing #ActiveSync.]

📌 Vor einem halben Jahr hatte CERN Pilotprojekte begonnen, um das schon zuvor beschlossene Ziel, Microsoft komplett loszuwerden, anzugehen. Als erstes wird nun der Mail- und Groupware-Client Kopano flächendeckend eingesetzt.

- Fix this issue. No idea how, I think it's Gmail.
- Reconfigure Zimbra to use IMAP instead of Exchange protocol. Giant PITA.

Took me a good 5 hours, but I finally have a basic Kopano mailserver spinning again. I'll continue with configuration tomorrow. Also, I'll probably never update this beast again, I'm terrified of breaking it.

@mdbekhit Well, there are forums, but both #Kopano and #Zimbra aren't very helpful towards the community if you haven't purchased support. Zimbra appears to have a larger community than Kopano.

Meanwhile Kopano actively develops their mailserver, whereas Zimbra is only working on an entirely new product for paying customers. A few befriended NGO's use Zimbra, I don't know others who use Kopano.

It's a hard choice and making the wrong choice could have a huge impact. :(

Lied awake again, worrying if we're making the right choice in going with 'ugly-but-it-works' #Zimbra as our on-premise mailserver (spoiler alert: probably not). To be sure, I want to test #Kopano again today, but I can't get it to install.
