CERN Releases Over 17,000 KiCad Component Libraries Under Open Hardware License

Warum geht es nicht überall so, dass mit öffentlichen Geldern auch was sinnvolles gemacht wird und die Produkte an die Allgemeinheit zurückfließen.

BASE experiment at CERN succeeds in transporting antimatter https://eps.org/base-experiment-at-cern-succeeds-in-transporting-antimatter/
On 24th March, in a world first, a team of scientists from the BASE experiment at CERN successfully transported a trap filled with antiprotons in a truck across the Laboratory’s main site. The team managed to accumulate a cloud of 92 antiprotons in an innovative portable cryogenic Penning trap, then disconnect it from the experimental facility, load it onto a truc

Webben förändrar Internet. 1993 lanserades webben eller World Wide Web (WWW) som det ursprungligen kallades på engelska efter den första webbläsaren som ingick i projektet från början.

Today #CERN released its #KiCad component library to the public.
They are licensed CERN-OHL-P-2.0
Thank you OSPO ❤️ for getting this done.Originally the library is made in Altium and will also be maintained in Altium. The repo only contains files that have been automatically converted.
It is a database library which contains only fully specified parts. There are lots of weird connectors. Have fun exploring.

Registration is open for the #academicConference "Effective Theories for Nonperturbative #physics " 24 August-4 September in Durham, UK. This conference continues a programme to connect and build a community of researchers in #effectiveFieldTheory and #quantumFieldTheory with emphasis on #nonperturbative aspects, that has been begun with a 2024 conference at the #MITP and a 2025 theory workshop at #CERN
Deadline is 24 June.

The particle accelerator laboratory #CERN obviously is of interest to physicists, but these experiments require a unique high-tech infrastructure that by itself is an exciting place of work for civil engineers. At the moment, there are open positions for "technical studentships" for undergraduate students in civil #engineering and applied #physics , all the way from electrical engineering to data science. Application deadline is typically 30 June.

Revelation 13:18
Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. -

#Antimatter traveled by truck for the first time
The 92 #antiproton particles, created at European particle physics laboratory #CERN in Geneva, traveled about eight kilometers to another site within the lab before the trap was delivered, contents intact.
This followed a test with #protons in 2024, part of effort called BASE-STEP. Eventually, #scientists hope to use #BASESTEP’s technology to bring antiprotons from CERN to facilities around #Europe.

The LHC punctured something in 2012 and we've been paying for it ever since. Somewhere in a better branch of the multiverse, a Japanese fire chief is quietly running his shift. In ours, he's been suspended for a month for forcing his crew to playtest his ten homemade board games on duty, during their nap breaks, with falsified paperwork to match.
Nobody at CERN is returning our calls.

Sometimes it is fun to do a manual audit of internet history. I just visited http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html and paused for a minute. It is literally the first website in the world.
The technical legacy of CERN is mind-blowing. They did not just smash particles! They gave us HTML, the WWW, and a strong culture of digital privacy. @protonprivacy for example, was founded by scientists who worked at CERN (it originally ran on protonmail.ch), and today it is one of the best tools we have to push back against Big Tech.
But then I got curious and went down a WHOIS rabbit hole. The registry shows cern.ch was registered "before 1 January 1996". However, the historically recognized first domain ever, symbolics.com, was registered on March 15, 1985.
I had a brief moment of cognitive dissonance: how could the first domain be six years older than the first website? Then it clicked. DNS and WWW are fundamentally different protocols. The DNS was already routing emails and networks long before Tim Berners-Lee invented hyperlinks.
To take it a step further, the same Tim Berners-Lee did not just invent the Web - he went on to found the W3C to keep it open and standardized, a mission that still continues today.
First domain != first website. It is basic technical logic, but connecting the dots manually gives that satisfying feeling of closing a mental background process.
