  1. @prinlu depends on what you want to do... Also don't underestimate the possibility to have a more modular approach on Linux via #jackaudio (and/or #pipewire ).
    I often use #Rosegarden together with #Ardour (syched via jack transport), have combined with #puredata, qmidiarp, etc. #Yoshimi synth of course.

    I prefer #Rosegarden as a sequencer/ composition tool, #ardour for audio #daw, #puredata for the more experimental/ DIY stuff...

    You can get pretty (crazy) creative 😉

  2. Either I'm really stupid or #jackaudio is a hopelessly complicated and an un-user-friendly mess. I just cannot figure out how to reduce the latency. There are no clear and easy to follow instructions anywhere. And this isn't the first time I've used it. so I tried #pipewire jack replacement and that doesn't work either. I'm ready to give up and go back to #Windows for my #audioproduction stuff.

  3. The funny thing is that the program that is segfaulting is pretty simple and written in #RustLang. I suspect #Fedora system updates (or fc38->39) have broken something related to #PipeWire / #JackAudio MIDI, because that's the only change I'm aware of.

  4. Ok, capitalism, you won... I'll buy new gear to fix my tech issues.
    So, new pedals ordered. And sound getting more precisely cut.
    Still using (almost exclusively) foss, GNU/Linux, Mixbus, and jackaudio of course. #foss #jackaudio #guitar

  5. Blog post: “Couple Of Pipewire Hacks”

    Finding very few blog posts about making music in the Pipewire era.
    So, here are a couple of things I found since upgrading.

  6. Boosts welcome! I'm trying to use a rpi as a usb midi host. Has anyone experience with this? I've tried using blokas "patch os" and midi routing with modep. Unfortunately I had noticable delays (irregular hihat pattern)... I also tried routing directly with jack. And using a rpi 4 instead of a rpi 3. My goal is to control (and power) different hw synths with a squarp pyramid (also usb midi).

  7. Has anyone else experienced Windows "automatically" removing jack command ? Tried reinstalling jack but it's still not there, and neither is jack_netsource.exe that I need to connect to the sound server here. Anyone??? #jackaudio #jack #linuxaudio #windows #windowsisshit #windowsisadumpsterfire

  8. i just realised that one if more amazing aspects of yesterday's gig was that I was sending audio from my #SuperCollider on my laptop without a soundcard via wired LAN network through #netjack directly to a #JackAudio server running on streaming box where it went into OBS via jack sound input device. it was totally simple to setup. the machines self-discover.

    # main machine with a running jackd:
    $ jack_load netmanager

    # client machine
    $ jackd -d net

    (CW: they use the m/s terminology)

    If you are using #linux & #JackAudio, you can set #audacity to record directly from the PulseAudio Jack Sink. I just tried it and it worked, capturing the #jitsi conversation. Possibly it'd also work without Jack, though I cannot test that at the moment.

  10. @tim

    It took me years to understand and configure #JackAudio correctly. Years mostly because I was too lazy to sit down and learn how to do it. That being said, documentation, hints and other minutiae were (are still?) sparse. I still can't claim to be an expert, but with #Catia, #AjSnapshot and an initial script that sets everything in motion, I don't have to worry too much.

    "Smarts", in my experience, is also a widely relative term.

    I'm using #icecast and #darkice. It was very simple to set up. Well, not taking into account my #alsa / #JackAudio configuration, which wasn't simple to set up, actually.

    As an aside, what sort of #Bose headphones do you have? I have a the crazy expensive sound cancelling ear-bud types that I use, though I prefer my #Bayerdynamic over the ears for mixing / serious listening at my computer.
