  1. @prinlu depends on what you want to do... Also don't underestimate the possibility to have a more modular approach on Linux via #jackaudio (and/or #pipewire ).
I often use #Rosegarden together with #Ardour (syched via jack transport), have combined with #puredata, qmidiarp, etc. #Yoshimi synth of course.

    I prefer #Rosegarden as a sequencer/ composition tool, #ardour for audio #daw, #puredata for the more experimental/ DIY stuff...

You can get pretty (crazy) creative 😉

  2. #Yoshimi synth for #linux version 2.3.5 is out:

    yoshimi.sourceforge.io/

One of the major additions in this version is LFOs for the SubSynth engine.
I use Yoshimi quite a lot and it's probably my favourite synth, this addition is a great enrichment to its already wide palette :-)

  3. @alisynthesis #Yoshimi can do a variety of sounds including different 'bass' - not a hardware synth but can be run on a Raspberry Pi 4 (musically.me.uk/YoshimiPi/inde) or with a 1k budget one could probably get a dedicated 'supermarket' laptop install light/stripped #linux distro and audio device... Just thinking outside of the box ;-)

  4. @gmslater not plugins but I've had fun using Pure Data (aka #Pd) and #Yoshimi to create drone-like textures with some pseudo randomness and live interaction.
I have also performed this live adding a small controller to the setup

    Here's an example:

  5. I don't use #bitwig, but have tried the demos a few times. It is definitely cool software and they are commendable for making it available on Linux. for what I do I have found the price point always a bit too high considering I prefer to use FLOSS (like #ardour, #lv2, #yoshimi) when possible and their lack of "native" support for lv2 plugins a blocker for considering buying it.

Regarding packaging, I think for proprietary 'binary blob' software Appimage is probably the most convenient?

  6. ... and try to "play" a Yoshimi synth there. It does work, but it's also VERY hard to play! If you approach it like a normal guitar, you'll get wrong or dead notes, and it will be quite imprecise. I'll have to learn how to use it properly, since as you can see in the video it does have interesting possibilities!

Thanks for the new toy, Randy! 🎸

  8. @benalb no conocía #yoshimi, dado que la creatividad no me fluye hacia el ámbito musical. Pero me encanto, así que me la llevo; algunos conocidos podrán darle buen uso.

  9. Do you know how to export to mp3 or wav some audio from Rosegarden? Thanks

    #music #rosegarden #yoshimi

  10. Je viens de passer 4 h à créer des #drumkits pour la batterie électronique de mon fils, sur le #synthétiseur virtuel #Yoshimi, un fork de #ZynAddSubFX - duquel je ne comprends plus l'interface.
    Me suis bien amusé !

  12. #waynecoyne and the #flaminglips brought the #yoshimi tour to downtown #pdx last night. Show was killer, recommend it if you have the opportunity to see. Probably my top Flips album. Good stuff even though there was a shooting literally 2 minutes after I left the venue 😞.

  13. a little noise improvisation using #pd #yoshimi and some plugins with #carla

  14. @noisevember As with all of my Noisevember noises, this is a synth patch, not an ambient sound recording. Roughly speaking, higher note numbers give you smaller fireworks, and higher velocities make them closer to you. I'd love to hear people making beats with this, preferably through enormous speakers. If you use #yoshimi or #zynaddsubfx, please follow the link and try them out.
