  1. This is a real title. No special shade to (or joke about) Germans, we have the same unhinged types over here. All of western Europe has gone crazy(*) it seems.

(*) not sure about the Spaniards yet

  4. “It is a great shame that Ireland is a special case, but the shame is not Ireland’s.”

The mystery is not why we Irish have responded to Israel’s barbarism. It’s why others have not — The Irish Times

  6. I think I've found a new hobby - counting how many times someone can cite an #IntLaw journal, or articles, with "#InternationalLaw" in the title, without using the words "#law" or "#legal" in their theory or analysis.

Relatedly - international relations, do we need to have a conversation about how international institution =/= international law?

  7. Random #InternationalRelations & #InternationalLaw thought of the day: when it comes to treaty interpretation, the VCLT matters far less than many legal scholars may think.

Simultaneously, it matters far more than many IR scholars may think. #InterdisciplinaryResearch #AcademicMastodon #IntLaw

  8. Are you interested in presenting at #EISAPEC23?

Sophie Duroy and I are putting together a panel of social science/IR-IL research studying how IL "works," broadly defined. Different methods, disciplines, and theories are encouraged! If you're interested in joining, please let me know and help spread the word!

  13. #InternationalRelations & #InternationalLaw folks of Mastodon - what are your favorite pieces (books or articles) on the use of #IntLaw in #politics (broadly defined)?

Self-recommendations are more than welcome! #AcademicMastodon

  14. Last night, the German Foreign Minister called for a Special Tribunal for Aggression to hold the planners of the #RussianInvasion of #Ukraine accountable.

On top of that, Germany is also calling for reforms to the Rome Statute to close gaps at the #InternationalCriminalCourt to ensure future accountability.

Tackling the current problem and looking to the future - that's how you strengthen #InternationalLaw. #InternationalCriminalLaw #IntLaw

  17. As I've just moved server, time for a (re)introduction

I teach and research in the criminology of atrocity, global crime and in the area of policing and democracy.

My interests are in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider Yugosphere.

I mostly toot in English, rarely in Turkish, and on special occasions in B/H/S. I'll boost in any language where I think I've understood.

  18. Time for a belated #introduction:

I’m a second-year PhD candidate at University College London, thinking about how international law (esp patents) structure the creation and distribution of technology in international society, and how to reimagine that law for the climate crisis. Living in East London, born on Barngarla land (rural South Australia). Currently also teaching property law, reading critical work on land justice and legal pedagogy.

Maybe it would help if I used these hashtags & started from fewer assumptions.

What should one do in the event that criminalisation of LGBT people in the US (& potentially allied/controlled countries) is en route? I'm hoping for a great deal more practical detail than "apply for asylum" in various ways & am likely not the only one. If not here, then where should one ask about all this?
