"Rise" war 1986 einer der größten Hits von Public Image Ltd. Der Song stammt von John Lydon, der früher bei den Sex Pistols sang. Der Text ist eher allgemein gehalten und handelt von Unterdrückung und dem Wunsch, sich davon nicht unterkriegen zu lassen. Die immer wiederkehrende Zeile "May the road rise with you" ist ein alter irischer Segenswunsch. In England kam die Single bis auf Platz elf der Charts.
Im Musikvideo sieht man John Lydon, wie er den Song in einer kahlen, verfallenen Umgebung singt. Alles ist bewusst einfach gehalten, im Mittelpunkt steht ganz allein seine kraftvolle und eigenwillige Art aufzutreten. Zu sehen ist hier die kürzere Fassung des Lieds.Eckdaten
