Big news for those following law and regulation of social media algorithms. NY state is about to ban recommendation algorithms for kids:

“The Stop Addictive Feeds Exploitation (SAFE) for Kids act will prohibit social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram from serving content to users under the age of 18 based on recommendation algorithms, meaning that, instead, social media companies will have to provide reverse-chronological feeds for child users.”

I’m a second-year PhD candidate at University College London, thinking about how international law (esp patents) structure the creation and distribution of technology in international society, and how to reimagine that law for the climate crisis.
