Entiendo que muchas de esas obras tienen un enorme valor artístico y forman parte de nuestra historia.
Entiendo también que no todo pertenece directamente a la Iglesia como institución y que vender patrimonio histórico no solucionaría mágicamente la pobreza.
Sería demasiado fácil decirlo así.Pero también creo que es legítimo mirar determinados lujos y preguntarse: ¿era esto realmente lo que pretendía aquel hombre que caminaba entre pobres, que hablaba de compartir y que no tenía precisamente un palacio?
Y luego está el Vaticano.
Ahí ya entramos en otro jardín.
Porque una cosa es conservar la historia y otra muy distinta es que una institución religiosa tenga que demostrar su poder mediante palacios, oro, obras de arte y riquezas.
La Iglesia puede decir que ese patrimonio no es simplemente suyo, que pertenece a la humanidad, que tiene valor artístico, histórico y espiritual. Y seguramente sea verdad en muchos casos.Pero entonces volvemos a la misma pregunta.
Si pertenece a la humanidad, ¿por qué hay tanta gente que pertenece a esa humanidad y sigue sin tener una vida digna?
No tengo una respuesta cómoda.
Y quizá precisamente por eso merece la pena hacer la pregunta.
Porque la fe no debería medirse por la cantidad de oro que reluce detrás del altar.
Debería medirse por la cantidad de personas que salen de esa iglesia un poco menos solas, un poco menos hambrientas y un poco menos jodidas que cuando entraron.
Lo demás, por muy bonito y antiguo que sea, sigue siendo oro.

It's taken me a while to process this, even though I've been enjoying the website for months. I think the problem is that we've spent our lives avoiding knowing it. Religions aren't inherently true or false, they're metaphors. I've been visiting the website mentioned here for a few months now, and I'm beginning to understand the metaphors within religions. What I've quoted here is implicit in all of them, with Paradise always in the background.
