#PaperlessNgx is a huge, complicated, and slow. #Papra is modern, fast, and simple. Both have good OCR. Also, Papra has an official mobile app in the works.
Despite both storing originals in files on disk, with Papra you'll get all your documents in a single folder, while Paperless-ngx is able to carefully sort them by folders. This is critical to me, because in case of emergency my family should be able to detach our #HomeCloud storage and use it as an external drive on any PC.

- Nutzerverwaltung (2 handvoll) mit Gruppen
- Dateien mit Berechtigungen ablegen über Web API und Browser-UI (ja, mehr nicht, nein wirklich!)
- Wunsch-TCP Port mit eigenem SSL-Cert (nicht self-signed)
- idealerweise tgz auspacken, minimal konfigurieren, starten (kein docker o.ä.)Meinungen?

Okay I've officially started work on the Home Cloud mobile app. This is the first time in about 8 years that I've worked on a mobile app (native, not adaptive web sites).
Honestly it's kinda funny to me how little things have changed, at least on the surface. The tools seem broadly the same, the development flow is the same. Emulators seem to be just as bad lol. I do wish I had an ARM based laptop now...

It's been a while since our last update blog post and this one includes a big milestone! We're making huge progress towards enabling remote access for Home Cloud as well as throwing in some other goodies.

I've been heads down for a while working on a huge update to Home Cloud and I just published a big milestone PR which implements a substantial portion of what makes Tailscale a $1.5 billion dollar business. This PR completes an end-to-end Wireguard tunnel which is fully peer-to-peer so that your Home Cloud server is accessible from anywhere in the world with full security and privacy.

Just added an "about" page to the Home Cloud dashboard showing all components with their respective versions. As we get closer to an official public release it'll be great having this for people to include in bug and issue reports. Pretty pumped how it turned out since I'm not a designer in any respect.

Andrew, my good friend and my co-founder of our new business Steady Bytes, wrote a "Hello Internet" post to kick off our company blog. In it he talks about our motivation behind starting this venture and what we're trying to accomplish with it (re: creating something with actual value instead of a soul-sucking profit machine). His way of saying it is much nicer though haha

I would add to this that pixelfed is really quite easy to install¹ and manage on modest hardware. If you have the least command line skills, I run mine on a raspberry pi5 and while I'd recommend staying with MySQL (I didn't) it just depends how much you like puzzles.

@scottjenson @ryne I think it needs close platform integration. I would be more than happy, when Apple would sell me a Mac mini with decent storage, running some kind of personalised AI.
The Mac mini “knows” everything about me. I would be able to ask my watch, phone, HomePod, TV anything about my personal documents, calendar, mails, etc. and get personal answers by the Mac mini. No cloud, no privacy issues, no monthly fees. -

Interesting #Phanpy behaviour: its feed is several minutes behind #moshidon
Might self-hosting on the #homecloud improve that? My understanding of these webapps was they are js mastodon clients; once fetched, everything is just between me and my mastodon host, so then the answer would be 'no' and I'm stuck with a puzzle.

- #NextCloud 30 gives 503 on both but Social is being rewritten anyway.
- #WordPress 6.7 activitypub accepts `user@host` but `@user@host is 404I noticed today it was no longer federating, the new puzzle. I made no 'intentional' config changes but learned today my hack on Functions.php to remove P tags gets wiped on upgrades.

Still something funky with my #homecloud postgresql #pixelfed - posting from android camera, the only report is filename=null yet mem limits are ample, and same #pixeldroid posts to my pixelfed.social just fine.

Maybe mention the apps supported, eg the AI components, encryption, etc, which are tricky and expensive with #homecloud instances (as I do). My traffic is low and local, but I need terabytes of storage for our image, audio and video production work; the home rpi handles this, although it cost days each for setup and upgrades and $400 in hardware - would take a long time to amortize that at $3/month!
That said, most I know using Nextcloud only use Files to share and manage documents!

Another step in #homecloud! I had been using a Raspberry Pi4B, and I loaded it up, #Nextcloud, #Icecast2, #Wordpress, even never visited #Mobilizon, and it ran pretty good, no issues. Then I added #Pixelfed, and clearly it was straining, especially during overnight CRON jobs. So today I completed porting the works, not without hiccups and timely kind fedi- and forum help (opensource is cool!), to an #rpi5 that boasts twice the RAM and twice the speed!
And now I have a spare rpi4B 😈

just discovered (and recovered from) another modern danger: latest auto-upgrade for #Nextcloud via #NextcloudPi involves an SQL import that, with my particular database, exceeded the (rather conservative) default timeouts for #mariadb, and as a result leaves the system bricked!
I learned all about *_timeout settings restoring the backup by hand, because they wouldn't have worked from the ncp panel either.
