A #HistPsych query addressed to historians of women's rights and the suffragette movement: for an undergraduate student project, can anyone point me to primary sources where protests by suffragettes are dismissed as expressions of mental illness? And is there secondary literature on this?

#Histodons, what are the best articles or book chapters on the history of mental illnesses suitable for an advanced undergraduate class? #HistMed #HistPsych

Just finished Rachel Aviv's *Strangers to Ourselves* -- Provocative, nuanced, and beautifully written. I'll need to sit with it for a while, but on first read, it strikes me as a masterpiece of long-form journalism and one of the best books on mental illness I've ever read. #bookstodon #bookreview #HistPsych #mentalhealth

#introduction.
Hi Mastodon in general and #histodons in particular - I teach classes (a lot of them!) in #bioethics, #HistMed, #HistPsych, and #HealthHumanities. I wrote a history of #Alzheimers in the United States, and am working (very slowly, alas) on a broader history of #dementia. Will post lots on other interests - some grappling with our generally dire circumstances (e.g. #ClimateChange, #uspolitics), some of them actually fun, like #cycling and #BoardGames.

I got lost today reading responses to Linus Kline's survey about homesickness, the impulse to leave home, and the love of home in the 1890s. Some read like poetry:
"Could I only break away and go somewhere by myself where the sun is bright and warm and where I can hear birds singing, find a nice comfortable position and spend my time in day-dreaming, I should be perfectly happy."
You and me both, anonymous survey responder, you and me both.
