...heritage. In fact, from what I recently learned from a scholarly article about Jewish ancestry, it could even be argued that we was, at best, a convert but not a Jew. Why? Because being a Jew or not is matrilineal, the father's lineage being responsible for tribal affiliation (only).

Yes, and no. My point is that #Palestine has been a giant waystation for hundreds of peoples, even in prehistoric times it seems.
Other than that, I do have my personal issues with anyone claiming to be superior because (s)he has been selected by (the) God(s). This is the way to intolerance, strife, oppression, and war.It has been a long time since I looked into history relevant to "biblical times".

In #Literature, #Winter imagery is used for Herod's #Cruelty (Cold, Frost) while the children are like #Botanicals, described as the first #Seeds or the #Flowers of the #Church. The #Poet #Prudentius wrote,

Like #Rosebuds snapped in dreadful strife,
When Herod sought our #Savior's life. -
The #Hasmonean ("#Maccabee") John Hyrcannus — who inherited #Jerusalem when his brother-in-law killed his brothers and his father — forcibly converted the entire region to Judaism.
This is why the inhabitants of Idumaea (Biblical Edom) became technically Jewish.
And, astonishingly, this is why #Herod could eventually destroy Jerusalem.
This is also a bizarre connection between #Hanukkah and #Christmas...
