In #GeneralElectionUK 2024:
3 in 5 electors voted;
1 in 5 electors voted #Labour;
1 in 20 voted Labour because they liked the Labour offering;
1 in 200 voted Labour because they liked Keir #Starmer's leadership.This is not the Dawning of the Age of Aquarius!

These are not ringing endorsements.
#Starmer has the positive support of fewer than 7% of the electorate.
I believe the UK is in a real crisis of legitimacy; and I believe the reason for this crisis is the gamification of politics.
#Labour didn't "win the debate"; it deliberately didn't engage in substantive debate. It didn't seek to win broad popular support; just tactical support in particular target constituencies.
Democracy is "government by the people". This isn't.

I'm looking for detailed analysis of the exit poll. Five years ago I could ask Google and I'd get right to the data immediately. Now, all Google will offer is fluff and trivia from tabloids.
Anyone know where I can get a summary the actual data? I want to know what voters' motivations for voting for each party where

Wondering about the details of the Labour vote in the #GeneralElectionUK I'm guessing that the hard left vote was down, centre vote up and some populists switched to Farrage ?

"Democracy is starting to look almost as fragile as the rainforest. Politicians in the traditional parties will not face the fact that they are no longer living in the stable climate in which that political system was created. The right wants to go back to a past that no longer exists. The left wants to move towards a future that it will not dare to fund"

I've just signed this petition from the Electoral Reform Society to change the voting system in the UK to be fairer and more representative:
https://www.electoral-reform.org.uk/campaigns/electoral-reform/
Yes, we had a chance at this with a referendum in 2011, but that just means it's time to bring this up again.
Especially in light of the rise of smaller parties, and some independent candidates, in the 2024 #GeneralElectionUK it's high time voters had a better guarantee of proper representation.

The most depressing discovery to come out of my analysis of Thursday's #GeneralElectionUK?
If we'd adopted #ProportionalRepresentation for the UK at the same time as we did for the #ScottishParliament and #SeneddCymru, we'd have had NO #Conservative governments this century, no austerity, and no #Brexit.

Lots more interesting nuggets but not sure I'll have a good time to look at them.
But for now - here are nominal Labour and LD targets for 2029:
https://www.electionpolling.co.uk/battleground/targets/labour
https://www.electionpolling.co.uk/battleground/targets/liberal-democratSome of these are 🤯 - Tory seats that are so rural they don't even have a town name in them, SNP strongholds for Labour, places where local support never materialised for the general for LDs.
This is probably the high water mark, but if not, wow.

The second thing is that all these parties will now tack right. #Labour's right wingers are in the ascendant (falsely) claiming a victory -- and will have to contrast themselves against a group of #Greens and independents to their left.
The less toxic #Tories have disproportionately lost their seats, leaving more extreme Tories; who will seek to reclaim votes from #Reform. The #LibDems will target more ex-Tories. And the #SNP will try to win votes back from Labour.

A few interesting gubbins from the election result, no particular rhyme or reason.
These four seats: the two Aberdeen seats, Dundee (!) and Arbroath - are special.
These represent SNP holds in Labour-facing seats.
Everywhere else that the SNP held on was against the Tories (and vice-versa). SNP collapse and pro-union tactical voting not extending to Tory candidates, I think.
