Oh nein! Eine neue #GadgetBahn fällt aus, eine autonom fahrende, an einem dt. Flughafen...Ist ja noch fast nie passiert... wer hätte damit rechnen können?
Wer hatte eigentlich die brillante Idee, zwischen Terminal 2 und 3 ein anderes System einzusetzen als zwischen Terminal 1 und zwei und auch etwas anderes als zwischen Terminal 1 und der Shoppingmall. (Ja, alles verschiedene, an einem Campus)

In the 1950s, the Victorian government was seriously considering a 40-seat helicopter bus service from the roof of Southern Cross Station to Moorabbin and Essendon Airports: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9Ybkpk3KaU
It also predicted that, by 2003, helipads would be built all over Melbourne for the thousands of people commuting by helicopter bus each day.
Needless to say, it never happened.

@EUCommission This is almost the very definition of a #Gadgetbahn... no better than a private car or robo-taxi without route flexibility!
If you want public transit to succeed while efficiently transporting the masses and reducing dependence on private vehicles, then fund cycling, buses, trams and light rail instead.

any idiot like me might be tempted to say, hmm, you need a better timetable. but luckily i am not in charge because really what they need is TINY TRAINS

Of course in Bologna, I have to try the local #gadgetbahn. The Marconi Express. Which is technically not a monorail even if marketed as such. Not going all the way to the airport, that is unnecessarily expensive. Just to Lazzaretto and back. Sadly, you can’t even look through a forward window.

Oh boy. The 29th of March 2025 there will be a symposium about “sustainable mobility in the German-Dutch border region” in the old station of Kranenburg (on the disused Nijmegen-Kleve #CrossBorderRail line).
The icing on the cake: there will be a live demonstration of an "innovative monorail technology”🤪called the "MONOCAB". This is a gyrostabilised 4-6 person autonomous pod which should run on a single track.
Tl;dr: another useless #GadgetBahn project.

Speaking of #Futurama, the irony is the writers put that in the title sequences because it’s fun … but they would also see that it’s a #gadgetbahn and achieves a lot less per dollar than high speed rail, or even just a standard metro.
A new metro today would be built with the same “boring” technology, but bigger and more “luxury” space, and would use driverless trains, and run at 100 km/h or 130km/h.
Not only fast, but carries hundreds of seats every 3 minutes, more or less.
